Dark Souls Lore thread

Anyone who actually believes this guy isnt a fraud is retarded.

He is literally the Soulfeeder mentioned in the Skull ring he drops.

Its why he is burnt.
>>
>>335660854
i may be small, but i will fraud a colossus
>>
>>335660854
meh

dude must be pretty bored considering i didnt talk to him to get any shit weapons
>>
>>335661178
But he needs to Feed anon.
>>
>>335660854
He killed the soulfeeder
>>
So what exactly is up with there being two (or three if you count Kiln) Firelink shrines?
>>
>>335661670
Then why doesnt he fit his throne? Everyone else had a throne to fit them (Lothrics was made for when hes older as it was Lorian size)

He isnt Ludleth. He is the Soulfeeder, who likely killed Ludleth and ate his soul.
>>
How can he run so fast when he doesn't have legs?
>>
He crown too big for he gotdam hed
>>
>>335661893
I don't know what that ring is or what it's description is, but does it matter who he is or not? He does exactly what you need him to do.
>>
>>335660854
He's the Demon's Souls protagonist from the bad ending where said protagonist is consumed with a hunger for souls. Hence his dead Maiden in Black firekeeper in Untended Graves.
>>
>>335661893
cause he has no fucking legs and tells you he tried to ignite himself and was burned down to the pathetic form you now see.
No legs, scrawny, failed to link the fire, meaning he isnt what he used to look like.
>>
>>335661893
On this note, does the Legion just share a seat? There's at least three of them, somebody's gonna be sitting bitch.
>>
>>335661893
Does Yhorm fit his throne? And Lud was raised as a lord of cinder just like lothric, but instead of hiding he's doing his duty.

He clerly know how to turn souls into items so why is it odd that he turned the soulfeeder into a ring?
>>
>>335662036
>Hence his dead Maiden in Black firekeeper in Untended Graves.
Where in the untended graves? I just defeated the champion
>>
>>335661893
>everyone else had a throne that fit them
>one of them seats a 10-headed 'skull'
>one of them a giant would sit on that couldn't even fit in the building itself

>>
>>335662286
Behind an illusory wall where the miracle trainer sits.
>>
>>335662286
You know that wall that Irina of Carim sits up against? It's an illusory wall in Untended Grave's Firelink Shrine/Nexus. Behind that illusory wall is a small room with a dead firekeeper in it. Loot the pair of eyes from her and talk to Ludleth.
>>
>>335662070
When does he say he used to be big? He only says his legs were charred off. But the Soulfeeder is also said to have been burnt.
He also says he succeeded in linking the flame.
>>335662163
Only one of the legion can link the flame. They all dont.

>>335662292
Yhorms Throne is literally an exact copy of that in his room, that he was sitting on when you walk in. Wew m8
>>
Could this be a dwarf?
>>
>>335660854
why does this matter again? he delivers as advertised
>>
>>335662624
>Yhorms Throne is literally an exact copy of that in his room, that he was sitting on when you walk in. Wew m8
Except much smaller, you dumb asshole
>>
that pilgrim dude just randomly dead when I came back to firelink shrine

should I be scared?
>>
>>335661738
I think it's due to the parallel worlds bullshit. The castles diorama in the background of the kiln directly references this.
>>
>>335662624
>Yhorms Throne is literally an exact copy of that in his room, that he was sitting on when you walk in. Wew m8
yeah you might wanna go check that yourself
>>
>>335662934
No, it isnt. Its literally an exact copy. Maybe actually look for once.
>>
>>335661332

Ah-ha thout returned
>>
>>335660854
>give him bad ass souls for weapons
We're literally feeding him souls. Maybe thats how he gets powerful enough to be a cinder
>>
>>335663054
Messages in Firelink Shrine also show up in Untended Graves and vice versa. They're also in the same area in the bonfire teleport menu.

Personally, I think it was Ludleth's world. Somehow we got through without the use of phantoms.
>>
Does it really matter who he is if he serves the purpose as a cinder?
>>
>>335663372
nah but it's cool to think about.
>>
>>335660854

Is he Mexican?

He looks like one.
>>
>>335662280
But he needs the transposing kiln to covert souls into items
>>
So if you literally beat all the cinder lords in the game, what the hell is the DLC for?

Did you see a woman beside him? If not cure your hollowing by giving the firekeeper soul to the firekeeper.

Skull ring description:
>One of Courland's transposed wonders. Derived from the soul of a Soulfeeder.
>Easier to be detected by enemies.
>The Soulfeeder was a beast that insatiably absorbed souls to feed its own power. Even after its accursed corpse was burned, it is said that the pungent stench of souls left the air permanently stained."

Wow so he was just like the player? The ring explains just how powerleveling in the game turns you into a monster. And when Ludleth set himself on fire to be a lord of cinder, its stench remains on his body. I don't see how this makes him a bad person at all.
>>
>>335663592
This doesn't make much sense. You killed the four niggers in DaSII, and the DLCs brought something new to the table
>>

read the Transposing Kiln description

Neither bearer or Aldia will be mentioned again.
DaS2 fucked up the lore, and i hope they just leave it like that.
>>
>>335660854
He never really lies about it, does he? I mean, the back of his chair says Ludleth, the Exiled. I assume he was exiled for eating so many fucking souls, and then burnt as a lord of cinder for it.
>>
>>335663340
I think its in the past, just because Iudex doesnt drop a Soul, because you already got it when you kill Champion Gundyr
>>
>>335663602
He might have just taken Vendrick's cure for hollowing and left, as the Faraam Armor's description said he went beyond death. He's probably just chilling with Aldia somewhere.
>>
>>335663540
Which he mentions he had access to before they were lost. I think he says there were even multiple.
>>
>>335663592

I hope the DLC has an "Arena" Where 30 something people can come in, watch fights and even participate. You can bet souls and there would even be special arena weapons and armor.

It wouldn't even kill PVP spots because that would still serve for people that are looking for something more simple.

>When does he say he used to be big?
I don't think you should be in Dark Souls lore thread if you are unable to take things not literally.

He said he linked the fire, he postponed the fucking end of the world.
After a deed like that even king of midgets could call himself a colossus.
>>
>>335663887
If they aknowledge it, they will have to retcon a lot of stuff.
Explain how the throne of want is supposed to be the first flame, it makes no sense unless DaS2 takes place after 3, which is not the case.
>>335663953
It has some cool stuff that works on it's own, but not in the series.
Honestly playing all 3, 2 feels like it's another game alla Bloodborne with it's own universe.

>>335660854

>>
>>335664562
I feel that DS2 offers an important bridging between DS1 and DS3, showing that efforts have been made to try stop the cycle.
>>
>>335664138
So is Vendrick, as king of want.
And the Nashandra painting, and some items.
Just to please some fans.
Hopefully they'll leave it like that.

Where does he ever say he isnt what he used to look like. He says to look at his burnt off legs, thats it. Even with legs the throne is still massivly to big for him.

Also Linking the fire doesnt make you fucking deformed. It literally burns you into ash.

>His tone when he says "I am a Lord"
Somebody tried to murder him in the past, yet he didnt just die (or go hollow) and he's dreaming of it. Who and why though? His firekeeper saw his betrayal (ending the flame/not linking it), maybe it was her?

>Forgive me please
Probably asks forgiveness for betraying his cycle and ending the fire (or failing to link it) and or murdering his firekeeper.

>I am not to blame
Maybe he got manipulated by Kaathe into doing what he did and he realised it a bit too late.

The reason he didnt fuck off like the others Lords of Cinder is regret for not fulfilling his duty.

Now about him get burned. Maybe he ultimately tried to link the fire but it was too late? Idk if it's relevant but if you choose to link the fire at the end there is no big wooosh like in DS1, your dude just starts burning up and then sits down (almost in disappointment). Maybe you are too late aswell and thats what happened to Lud too? Idk about that but I'm almost certain that dark firelink is in Lud's cycle where he failed to link the flame.
>>
I'm just going to post some of my lore musings: I'm not espousing I'm any sort of expert, but I have some ideas.

Here's my shit on Yhorm.
>Yhorm the Giant is a Dark souls 2 Giant. He just isn't "Hollowed": Giants Hollow via their bodies becoming contorted, emaciated and developing that characteristic hole in their face before they slowly develop into those elder trees and die.

>Yhorm is a direct descendant from the Giant King from Dark Souls 2.

>Yhorm came to the profaned capital before it was known as the "profaned" capital in order to loot and pillage it's exorbitant wealth, which he was able to do quite effortlessly; absolutely fucking devastating the capitals knights, guards and king.

>Yhorm however was BEGGED by the common folk to lead them as a lord and king as they recognized his strength, but also thought that he couldn't be crueler than their previous demented God/Human leaders. They were pleased to find that Yhorm was as just and fair as he was physically powerful.

>Eventually however it came time for Yhorm to link the fire and he did so willingly and became a lord of cinder, but a giant had never before linked the fires and his fire instead turned into the profaned flame we know today: it burned so brightly and massive that it consumed all of Yhorm's kingdom.

>In an attempt to protect and shield his people from the profaned flame; Yhorm opened his throne room to the public to shelter them from the fire, but the profaned flame burned only HUMANS and every single one of Yhorm's subjects ended up burning alive.

>Yhorm flees from his responsibility as lord of cinder due to his personal failures causing him to lose faith in his title and credibility.
>>
>>335664726
Also each cycle seems to last less and less.
>>
>>335664889

Did we ever discover a answer to this or is it just doomed to eventually fade?
>>
>>335660854

>>
>>335664856
Au contraire.
I'm happy they aknowledge so little about it.
Like
"Yeah it happened, and a bunch of people has linked the fire since then, but we'll just mention it vaguely"
>>
>>335664881
Good fiction.
I've heard the hollow giant idea, but they must not hollow like humans because the Giants in das2 are an effective, coherent army, unlike the mindless human hollows.
>>
>>335664879
He specifically says he linked the flame, of his own accord, even when he knows you've given the firekeeper the eyes and encourages you to make your choice for yourself, whether to link it or let it fade. Considering how upfront he is about it there's no reason to think he didn't link the fire.

Not to mention there's another dream he has where he's screaming about how much being burned hurts. Dude totally linked the fire when he became a lord. We know becoming a lord takes a lot of strength/souls, we know he drops the skull ring and could transpose souls, even if he isn't the beast mentioned on the ring he probably did some mean shit to get enough power to become a lord, hence the begging for forgiveness.

>>
>>335664881
The profaned flame was not made by him linking the flame, it existed before. There is an axe (elenora I think its named) that talks about some witches that fucked shit up and left happy.

They probably made the flame and he had to stand as a vanguard against it or some shit. Maybe he thought linking the fire would help?

Also the fire feeds on humanity, he is a giant, thus it fed on his subjects.

I really didn't pay attention to the lore, I judge characters by how they speak. The way he talks about becoming a colossus made me hate his guts. >>335664879
Read all the descriptions on Gundyr's stuff plus the Estus ring. Dark firelink is the cycle where Gundyr woke up late because the bell didn't ring and the fire had already faded. Then you come along after wandering into the past, fuck him up, and he ends up impaled on the coiled sword waiting to test a new ashen champion, which ended up being you in the present at the start of the game.

>I've heard the hollow giant idea, but they must not hollow like humans because the Giants in das2 are an effective, coherent army, unlike the mindless human hollows.

Giants are unlike Gods or Humans; they arose from the great trees that supported the world in the time of mists and dragons and even to this day continue to be the platforms that support the world.
Giants never truly "hollow" in the sense that they never become mindless hollows and their spirits remain INDOMITABLE; they never forgive, they never forget. Drangleic fought the Giant king and his people for almost 4 generations and day in and day simply because the Giants refused to stop fighting even as they twisted into the shapes we see them as in Dark Souls 2.

When beings hollow in Dark souls they return back to what they were before fire was introduced: Humans turn into hollows and Giants turn back into Trees.

This ties in with Yhorm as even though he denied his lordship of cinders: He remained at his throne with the remains of his subjects and waited for a champion to best him who would be able to do what he could not.

>>335665106
>do you have anything on him and siegward?

Yhorm was a friend of Seigward; simple as that.
Yhorm gave Seigward and his own subjects the storm rulers in an act of solidarity so that they wouldn't fear him as those two swords were capable of quiet effortlessly killing him.
I can only imagine that Seigward made a promise to Yhorm that if he ever faltered from his Duty that Seigward would personally come back to the profaned capital and KILL Yhorm to collect his remains and so forth.

, Champion Gundyr, "was greeted by a shrine without fire, and a bell that would not toll." The boss in the area actually called Firelink Shrine is Iudyx Gundyr, who "was bested by an unknown warrior. He then became sheath to a coilder sword in the hopes that someday, the first flame would be linked once more."
Since we find Iudyx dead with a sword in him, but the Champion was already alive, we can surmise that he was impaled by the coiled sword after being beaten by you in the Untended Graves. Therefore, this dark area is in the past, and Firelink Shrine is in the present. Since time is warped due to the Curse, you are able to revisit this previous time.
Also, the items you get here aren't in the "light" Graves because you already took them. Similarly, Iudex is the only boss in the game without a soul, because you already took his soul when you defeated Champion Gundyr.

The biggest difference between DS3 and the other ones is you start in Lothric, you arent magically transported there. You are awoken as a Lord of Cinder.

Another one of my musings; not as controversial as the last I don't think, but I'd like to share it regardless.

>Champion Gundyr is a human; a champion undead or lord of cinder much akin or exactly like what the player is. He was one anyway.

>Champion Gundyr however came "too late" to save the world and by the time he arrived at HIS firelink shrine the first fire had already faded and an age of darkness had already begun- consuming the world in darkness and ending flame.

>Champion Gundyr however was not "alone" he had the old shrine maiden and he encountered YOU the player.

>Not knowing any better Gundyr assumed by your power that you were either an invader or someone who could potentially be used to create a new "flame"- one of those tiny embers subsisting in the darkness.

>You fight and defeat Gundyr (if not you then perhaps the Swords Master who was also stubbornly alive and in search of lost blades and enemies to test his skill). Dejected and demoralized Gundyr does not wish to be a "threat" to anyone when he becomes hollow and instead prompts himself up as a "challenge" for any upcoming champions.

>He kills himself via impaling and pinning himself down with a coiled sword used to holster bonfires before he lets the abyss take him; reasoning one day a champion will pull the blade, defeat him and create a new bonfire in a new age of fire.
>>
>>335666438

What I think Ludleth is all about:

Ludleth was involved in betraying the Firekeeper and whoever was to link the fire at some point in time. He stabbed them in the back and ensured the fire was not linked.

After seeing the age of dark and watching the firekeeper be ripped apart by whatever the darkness brought, he willed himself into a Lord of Cinder and somehow split into an alternate reality where he linked the flame.

He was 'exiled' from his own Age of Darkness into a reality where the flame was linked but he did not belong. He made it so the firekeeper and yourself are prisoners of his Firelink Shrink.

The same Firekeeper dies over and over again because he has her soul and he doesn't want you to show her the eyes of the original firekeeper because it would reveal the horrors of the dark he created and the betrayal that he brought about.

He's the original evil that is trying to make it right. He was probably tricked by snakes and shit too.
>>
>>335666805
Probably, but item description says she just disappears again. Gwynevere is always just running away somewhere. Maybe we'll get to see what she's up to.

The firelink shrines are illusions created by gwyndolin and crew to hopefully stop the cycle of the Lord's of cynder, the first one failed and is the dark firelink shrine, the warrior that failed is the "champion" and the second illusion has you fight an illusion of him to prove your worth as a potential usurper of the flame.

This is why the version of him you kill doesn't drop a soul, it's why the intended graves are named "untended" because they were abandoned by the remaining weakened gods, and why the firekeepers eyes had slivers and evidence of betrayal.

>>335667134
I don't think it's multiple realities just time overlapping. there are times where the fire has gone out
>>
>>335666696

Here is another one that involves everyone's favorite character Gwyndolin: This one is more "speculative", so feel free to take or leave it.

>Gwyndolin survived the events of Dark souls 1. Gwyndolin not only survived, but remained and subsisted as the last remaining god of anor londo and the surrounding land.

>With Gwyndolin the only remaining God he did what he thought was best as soon as the fire had been relinked: he guided the humans, rebuilt anor londo and reintroduced the humans to his own doctored miracles that were meant to replicate the miracles of his father Gwyn. Quite possible with the help of one of the serpents (Framptf?)

>Gwyndolin grew powerful, but ultimately could not truly replicate the splendor his father had created: Gwyndolin's influenced spread a constant and eternal "nightfall" over anor londo turning it into the cold tundra of the boreal valley and the miracles Gwyndolin spread in his father's name were.. "lacking" that certain GROSS INCANDESCENTS.

>Gwyndolin may have been possibly able to briefly bring back his sister(?) Gwynevere(?) but king Ocerius turned into a freaky dragon? I'm not 100% sure about this part.

>Gwyndolin however became aware of the "meta" from the linking of the fire and established the court of cinders/the lord of cinders title in order to groom and produce worthy heirs and an established stock of humans/giants/whoever who could and WOULD keep the flame constantly lit over generations.

>This however eventually falls apart due to Aldritch's growing influence in the clergy- culminating in Gwyndolin's usurpation via vore.
>>
>>335663680
Why does getting corrupted make you grow big?
>>
>>335665307

>>
>>335667081

The complicating factor there is that the Londorians don't want you to simply bring in the age of dark - they want you to steal the flame, to usurp it. Not the age of man (dark) or age of fire (gods) but the age of hollows.

If not for her saying she's failed Kaathe if she is killed would figure they are playing for a rebellion against Kaathe and the dorkwraiths.

The miracle was just written by Gertrude, it's not made of her soul or anything. Priscilla may not be fine, either. I know people have been fond of saying Aldricht never got to her and only dreamed of her etc., but we see some stuff reminiscent of the Painted World in the actual world which may make us want to think twice.
>Corvian scythe
>The Mistress of the Painted World is said to wield a great scythe herself.
It's wielded by those fucked up bird people things, the same item description calls them "heretics", we know heretical things were kept in the Painted World and that there were fucked up bird people living there since we fought them in DaS1. The scythes also have a bleed effect similar to lifehunt scythe's.
>Aldrich's Doll
Using a doll to get past Irithyll's barrier is exactly how you got entry into the Painted World in the first place.
>Yorshka
Priscilla was kept in the Painted World because she was a crossbreed. Why would Yorshka not also be kept there for the same reason? Yorshka also knows about the Darkmoons, Gwyn, and other shit from the good ol' age of fire, so it's not like she's so young she came after all of that. I think she must have been in the Painted World at some point, and either left or was forced out.
>Irithyll and Anor Londo in general
This one is really a stretch but they are snowy as fuck and we know Anor Londo wasn't like that at all in DaS1 so maybe, if some or all of the Painted World did leak out, it also had this effect.

Basically, my idea is that the Painted World got fucked up somewhere along the way of Anor Londo converging with the realms of other Lords of Cinder, or the Pontiff fucking everything up, or things in general just shitting the bed because the fire is fading.
And now things from the Painted World have been forced out. Maybe it happened naturally when the painting was fucked, maybe Aldrich/Pontiff found the Painting and tried to get to Priscilla, either way I don't think she's perfectly alright.
>>
>>335667659

>>
>>335667693
Nah, Kaathe tried the "not linking the flame" before. I think he figured you needed to stomp that shit out to truly have an age of dark. Thats why they groom the black holes in you, to suck the flame dry and stamp that shit out.

You become a king for it though, better than a pile of ashes imo.
>>
>>335667450
Give the firekeeper eyes and she says even in the dark there will still be embers that may give rise to a new age of fire.

Not sure if that's still possible if you usurp the flame instead of letting it fade, though. That seems like it'd make you a Lord similar to Gwyn/Nito/Witch, just of dark rather than fire.

It says they kept Gertrude in a lofty cell in the Archives. You find the body and the miracle which she wrote inside a cell with feathers everywhere. The body is Gertrude.

I don't think the Painted World 'leaked out' either so much as information of it and what was in it spread, creating the heretics who somehow turned themselves into crow freaks who were obsessed with the Painted World and Priscilla both.
Yorshka isn't kept in the Painted World because the building and the painting as well are gone, so they instead just kept her at the top of an 'inaccessible' tower. Plus, she speaks fondly of Gwyndolin who - I would imagine seeing as he gave her her chime and all - didn't really mind a crossbreed as much as Gwyn would have, since I imagine Priscilla was drawn into the PW when Anor Londo was still populated, so I doubt she'd have a reason to be so depressed and lonely as to get sucked into the painting too.

Chances are that the painted world is safer than ever now since the actual entryway to get inside is gone forever.

So is one of the DLCs going to reveal to us the fate of my dear beloved Ocelotte?
>>
>>335665205
My issue with that is that red eyes is implied to be the sign of bad case of abyss infection.
And I don't think it's something you can get better from. Which means it doesn't make sense that Gundyr was fully corrupted in the past, but less so in the "present".
>>
>>335667791
What I find weird about the bird people (Corvians?) is that you find them in several places. Road of Sacrifices, Farron Keep, Grand Archives/Lothric Castle, that one in Ithryll, and even in the Untended Graves. What exactly are they?
>>
>>335668408
Also I'd like to see DLC based on more Cathedral of the Deep style inquisitions like the one in the Undead Settlement. That was Berserk as fuck and was so rad.
>>
>>335667134
Parallel universes/timelines would make a lot of sense given the nature the soul series. My personal theory is that the First Flame maintains a near infinite amount of timelines. Each timeline that links the fire just adds more time to the First Flame to exist, however for each timeline that links the fire there are two ore more where the chosen undead either gives up or rejects it. As less and less undead link the fire, the First Flame will eventually die out leaving only the Dark.

Here are some other little details that could be taken either way or I otherwise don't feel 100% confident in or can't attach to anything:

>The Snakemen in Dark Souls 3 are the same Snakemen from Dark Souls 1. The Snakemen worship the Dragons as snakes are believed to be "imperfect dragons" and the snakemen most likely believe that if they worship, tend and admire the Dragons they too will become Dragons one day despite their short comings.

>The Snakemen's sorcerers are capable of summoning those who've championed or have some influence with the cult of the Dragons. They may also have been descendents of Seeth The Scaleless sorcerors as they have those little six-eyed masks or something.

>The Dragon Peek is capable of physically moving and does not entirely "exist" as a mountain one fixed place: freely turning into a storm cloud and shifting around from place to place.

>The Snakemen and The LionMen both worship The Nameless king as a god of war: At one point the mountain must have moved through Drangleic "mysteriously bringing" The Lionmen with it and their iconic painted shields.

>The Profaned Flame may or may not be another fire similar to the one the witches of isilith created that spawned demons: a virilent persistent corruption of the first flame or something. Perhaps the demons are looking for it?
>>
>>335668564
I don't think he's less corrupted in the "present" considering halfway through the fight a giant abyss parasite thing bursts out of him and fights you instead. Compared to just having two red eyes but otherwise being himself that seems much worse.

During the Meditation cutscene the peek visible moves closer and closer to where you are.
Also following up with this:
>>335669175
>also, nameless probably built Dragon Peak after he got exiled

The Dragon Peek is most likely a "cloud" or "storm" created by The Exiled King or whatever to house/lodge his followers and dragons as well as keep them obscured from hunters and the gods.

>>335669141
>Weren't the lionmen, scorpionmen, elephant knights and all the other beastmen in 2 creations of somebody? Can't remember if it was Aldia, Seath, or that Duke of Tseldora that did it but it was something like that.

The Scorpionmen were possibly created by either Aldia or Seath the Scaleless- most likely Seath.
The Elephant Knights were DEFINITELY created by Aldia.
The Lion Men just mysteriously "appeared" having never been seen before by anyone- I'm connecting them to the Dragon Peek because if you look closely both them and the serpent men on dragon peek use the exact same shield.

My reasoning is the Dragon Peek moved through drangleic collecting followers of the dragon cult and must have left behind a few lion men(?) perhaps? Who the fuck knows.

The Dragon Shrine though in Drangleic was most likely built so high above the clouds so it could intersect and commune with the Dragon Peek as it passed through the area.

I think Frampt is the one who set up the Lord of Cinder rituals. Ther are statues of him in Lothric, and I think the winged knights and Gertrude were allied with him (or with "angels"). I mean, all the mechanisms of hollowing and humanities and shit like that no longer exists, and instead people form Londor are refered to as hollows. Which is strange, since they should collect humanities like a motherfucker.

Also, they have to pull some wild shit to "usurp the flame", whatever that means. I guess dark sigils are a symbol of power or something?

The miracle you get is one that Gwynevere wrote and handed out to her handmaidens, its one of the two that you find on the octopus-maidens in the first game. The other one you get from Dancer's soul who is, apparently, a daughter of Gwyn or at least one of Gwyn's line, so if anything, Rosaria is just related to Gwynevere in some way.
>>335669815

I think it's more likely that she's related to Gwynevere than anything else. We found Gwynevere's miracles on two of Seathe's squid monsters, but those were just mutated maidens not Gwynevere herself. We can make a Gwynevere miracle out of the Dancer's soul but, again, no one is claiming the Dancer is Gwynevere.

Gwynevere had lot's of kids. Maybe Rosaria is one of them. Rosaria also can't speak, and Gertrude "The Heavenly Daughter" is said to be unable to speak in the Pillars of Light miracle.

Or hear me out.

Ornstien is the one you fight.
No hes not Gwyns Firstborn, but with the fire fading, the gods powers were weakening, causing Gwyndolin, and NK to become Ill and weak.

Ornstien armour just says he went to find NK, not that he had any vendetta. It seems the opposite, as NK was his master for awhile there. There has to be some sort of Loyalty, especially if hes abandoning his post when CU is on a rampage in Lordran.

I think Ornstien took up the Armor and title when Gwynson became Ill. Its why you find Ornstiens armor just on the ground with no bodies around it.

Burial, anon. Pretty much every piece of gear or item you find in the undead settlement mentions that that sort of thing was being done to make sure that the undead would stay dead and not get up and go hollow. Of course that didn't work out since the people PERFORMING the rituals went hollow, the evangelists came in and got them to start moving sacrifices to Aldrich, and they ended up forgetting all about the rituals.

A desert and a jungle are two things I really want in the DLC, but I doubt we'll get them.

>moss covered enemies that hide against moss covered surfaces
>tree villages with rickety bridges
>giant trapdoor spiders
>tribe that worships remains of one of the OG dragons
>that dragon rises from the ground as a lump of moss, gradually shaking the moss off during the fight and moving more

>legit mummy enemies that try to bind you, and collapse as a pile of cloth when defeated
>ancient ruins with poison rooms, maybe puzzles but it's not very suitable for Souls games
>sandstorm area with what appears to be women shambling around, singing
>Oasis' that often fade away as you get closer
>boss could be a guy with hooked blades that rides a giant, raggedy jackal or something
>killing his jackal knocks him off, he turns his blades and runs on all fours, moving faster and bouncing around

Just make those the optional bosses of each area, because each DLC needs multiple bosses.

Priscilla is the lover or of Nameless King. That's why he betrayed hus father to side with the dragons and locked her away. Yorshka may be NK and Priscilla's daughter raised by gwyndolin as his sister long after Gwyn left.
As to how Priscilla came to be in the first place, I'd assume humanity had to do with it. Her been directly linked with humanity while not being completely human could explain the role of level up maiden she was originally intended to have.
I like to think that BK betrayed his father for love, but it was still a hard choice for him, which is why he grieves for his father's departure and leaves the miracle on his grave.

Gertrude, daughter of the Lothric line, is Gwynevere's daughter.
Let's review some item descriptions.
From the Winged Knight set
>Worship of the divine messengers was viewed as heresy in Lothric and unrecognised by any of the Three Pillars of rule. This is believed to be why Gertrude, the Heavenly Daughter, was imprisoned in the lofty cell of the Grand Archives.
From the Divine Pillars of Light miracle
>The Queen's holy maiden Gertrude was visited by an angel, who revealed this tale to her. Despite losing both her sight and her voice, she was determined to record the tale. Ordinary men cannot decipher her fragmentary scrawl, nor comprehend how it became the foundation of the Angelic faith of Lothric.
From the Bountiful Light miracle
>Miracle taught to knights by Gertrude, holy maiden to the Queen. The Heavenly Daugher is said to be the Queen's child.

So the item descriptions outright mention that Gertrude is said to be the Queen's daughter and the same item that says that, Bountiful Light, is derivative of the Bountiful Sunlight miracle in DaS1 which was one of Gwynevere's miracles which she gave to her maidens. That's enough to confirm the connection and explain Gertrude's "Heavenly Daughter" title. What I'm wondering is why faith in the gods was seen as heretical in Lothric?

Let's assume the angel that visited Gertrude was Frampt, since we can see all the statues of the primordial serpent with angel's wings in Lothric Castle and we know Frampt was allied with the gods. Why would Lothric dislike him and the gods but still want to link the fire? Was Oceiros just that much of an asshole that he wanted it all to be about him and his line rather than Gwyn? Did Gwynevere run out on him after he went fucking insane and started experimenting on his kids?
>>
>>335671001

*his goddess

I also think the obsession he has with Rosaria's soul is most likely just because Rosaria is somehow related to Gwynevere.

Lords of Cinder more like Lords of Retard

What I would do would be to first create a lottery to decide the order of the lords to go link the flame. We would have 4 age of fires, 5 if we could find an army to carry ludleth to the kiln cause he seems useless. During these ages of fire the unkindled one would venture out hunting all research on the curse and the fire/dark cycles from the age of gwyn up to now and find a way to merge light and dark into an everlasting twilight where good and evil light and darkness live exist in harmony in the world.

Why dislike the angels, then?
Also, I think Gertrude may have been the Dancer.
From the Dancer's soul
>The Pontiff Sulyvahn bestowed a double-slashing sword upon a distant daughter of the formal royal family, ordering her to serve first as a dancer, and then as an outrider knight, the equivalent to exile.
From her armor set
>The mirage-like aurora veil is said to be an article of the old gods, permitted only for direct descendants of the old royal family.
Her soul can be used to make the Soothing Sunlight miracle, another of Gwynevere's miracles which are "bestowed on her maidens".

Taking into account that Gertrude's items mention her being a maiden to the Queen, a likely child of the Queen, and the Divine Blessing description that says the Queen was initially revered as a goddess of fertility and bounty, I think Gertrude was snatched from her cage by the Pontiff and is actually the Dancer.

I been thinking about the implications of the Serpent statues in Lothric and it seems to me that at least one serpent (I'm guessing Frampt) became the subject of worship in Lothric when they found out that Oceiros's secondborn was destined to become a Lord of Cinder. The serpents crippled Price Lothric before he was even born and slowly destroyed the kingdom from the inside. When Lothric rejected his duties as a Lord of Cinder, the First Flame desperately revived the former Lords of Cinder and when they rejected it, it leads to you being awaken in the beginning of the game.

The fire is literally fire. It's the first fire ever, before it came into being there was nothing in the world but fog, trees, and immortal dragons. Fire introduced disparities like heat and cold, life and death, light and dark. The gods found their powerful souls within the first flame, and when the first flame starts to fade everything starts going to shit and the dark starts getting more influence.

Doesn't the fact that there is no body where you pick the armor lean more toward Ornstein siding with his old master upon finding him and becoming one of the many meditating dragonkin. I mean you do have to take off your armor in game to use the Dragon stones.

>Do we know it was a serpent/"angel" that crippled the Prince?

Well, Lothric has weird Seath fingers and has feathers in his room, like Oceiros' feathered wings. Oceiros got his Seath infatuation from The Scholars, who have the Primordial serpent statues.

The serpent statues are up in the archives, true, but the scholars seem way, way more interested in Seath than anything else.

>Lord of cinder is someone who has a strong enougj soul to link the flame!
>NO WAY IS ASHEN ONE A LORD OF CINDER

Isnt one of the endings Ashen one linking the flame? Implying his Soul is strong enough making him a Lord of Cinder

Ludleth is not a Lord of cinder. He did not link the flame. Hes a fraud.

If anything, Ashen one is probably Ludleth the Exiled.

Only 5 are needed, he says so himself.
>>
Being a Lord of Cinder has nothing to do with linking the flame. Neither Aldrich or Lothric had linked the flame previously.
>>
>>335671873
Kind of neat that they threw in a third contender for next age. Hopefully they expand on it more in the DLC. We haven't explore Dark Soul's oceans yet and given what lives in our deep oceans, there is properly some scary shit living in theirs.

Can someone explain to me how Gwyndolin is even alive to be eaten when I killed his ass in DS1?
>>
>>335672906
Hydras and man eating clams were bad enough
>>
>>335672942
Canonically you didn't kill him in Dark Souls 1. he was optional and thus they decided that you didn't bother him in terms of canon.
>>
>>335672820
cant be Lud cause Lud is male even if you create a female character, that would be interesting though.

A friend of mine claims that ornstein travelled to the peak to find his old master where he embraced the dragon worship cult faggotry and ultimately turned into a dragon, he's the storm dude NK is mounting. Sapping his strength while he's dying is prolly a technique NK tought ornstein. Seems silly to me tho

>Being a Lord of Cinder has nothing to do with linking the flame. Neither Aldrich or Lothric had linked the flame previously.

You are correct, but for the wrong reasons.

Being a lord of cinder has more to do with acknowledging you as a qualified person to link the flame.

Out of the lord of Cinders only Yhorm and The Little Lord Ludleth had linked a flame before.
If you've already linked the flame once than you automatically qualify as a lord of cinder obviously.

>>335671131
The statues depicting the serpent, have a hollow "heart". I don't think it is Frampt but pretty sure it is Kaathe. Frampt wanted the undead to link the fire, something that Lothric refuse. At least Kaathe "believed" in humans in a limited way.

Also the whole archives are about knowledge and knowing what is up with the linking of the fire, the first Scholar taught Lothric about it.
>>
>>335673017
Why does Lud have to be male?

The guy sitting on Ludleths throne is a fraud
>>
>>335672942
Its either noncanon for the chosen undead to kill Gwyndolin or its because TIME IS CONVOLUTED
>>
I don't get why people keep saying that they're glad DaS2 lore isn't canon. It's got as much to do with the DaS3 lore as DaS1 has. Fuck, even the most basic principle is the lords of cinder ascending to their THRONES. And breaking the cycle, something that was set up in DaS2.

>>335672942
I don't know, how could a master of illusion possibly be alive after you killed him?
>>
>>335673173
Or Gwyndolin just used his illusion magic to pull a fast one.
>>
>>335671964
I haven't thought much about it, but I'll try to explain what I do have in mind.

The Great Hollow and Ash Lake are now dense jungles. The Great Hollow has more structures, because a tribe worships the Ancient Dragon that is now buried under a thick cushion of moss in the deeper parts. Descending Great Hollow, crossing rickety bridges that sway, everything draped in vibrant green vines, sunlight bursting through breaks in the tree, you reach Ash Lake. It's now a traditional looking jungle, the trees are less sparse, and you can cross parts of the lake because it's now all solid floor. Thick branches curve over head, and some parts of the Hollow's village has carried on out here, sitting in the trees overhead. Plants grow tall, their leaves the size of your body.
>enemies can hide on the underside of these leaves
Moss climbs up everything, and enemies can 'peel' from it to expose theirself before they attack. The ground level is inhabited by creatures that focus on using ambushes. Above, in the village and across the large branches, you can cross between trees and face the tribes people.
You can also descend a little deeper than the jungle's apparent ground, to a small cavern that water drips in to and vines dangle from the cieling of, not sure what could be here. Eventually though, the jungle comes to a big clearing, this is where you fight the dragon, it rises from the ground looking like something out of SotC.

I have more in mind, but I'm hungry and need to go cook.

>master of illusion still alive

>>
>>335673129
Considering the DaS1 endings, we don't know what the fuck those serpents really wanted. And they were never addressed again. I kinda expect they'll be the focus for some DaS3 dlc. I'm pretty sure either way that they're rusemastering fucks. Even their names imply they are older than Gwyn, the Giants and Humanity.
>>
>>335673129
Only the Princes refused to link the fire. The King was so obsessed with making an heir to live up to the lord of cinders shit that he went dragon crazy.
I mean the serpent being Kaathe makes sense for that side of things. Looking at the pillars of light miracle again it doesn't say anything about it being a miracle of the old gods. In fact it says it was the foundation of the entire Angelic faith. I guess it was Kaathe trying to fuck things up.
>>
>>335673343
>serpents
They were cameo'd as a statue in Lothric Castle. By the golden Winged Fuccboi Knights on the rooftop I believe.
>>
>>335673312
Gwyn could split his soul. Or you received someone else's soul disguised as Gwyndolins soul. Or whatever the fuck other reason you want to make up, there's literally hundred ways that could have gone down.
>>
>>335673376
Kaathe didn't have anything to do with Lothric not wanting to link the fire. the First Scholar was Aldia.
>>
>>335673173
this lore is becoming convoluted
>>
>>335673415
Yeah, I know. Only raises more questions though. It's either just a fun nod to das1, or it's implied they continued to influence events after das1. Maybe one was even friends and advisor to whatever his name was before he went mad, the Consumed King. Primordial is an odd name to attach to them. Not even the Lords were primordial. Where did they come from?

I have one more insight or idea to share before I basically run out of things to say or talk about:

>"The Deep" is not "The Abyss".

>The Deep refers to a darkness that is deeper and heavier than that created by the humanity present in humans.

>The Deep was first envisioned by Aldritch who's dream depicted an all-consuming third age an age of the "sea" that was foreign to the age of darkness or fire or even of the primordial dragons and their mist.

>The Deep seems to be associated with the very, very, bottom of the world, the "bedrock": the stillness of souls inspired Archdeacon McDonnell to create the "Deep Soul" Sorcery and Aldritch Faithful servants collect something called "Human Dreg" which is supposed to be the heaviest part of a human.

>Also Aldritch and his clergy have blue "water-like" souls.

That's uh... That's all I've got.
It's some sort of darkness or deep, deep'ness that's beyond the Abyss and darker than humanity or maybe even perhaps completely foreign to the dark soul all together.

It mind sound silly, but perhaps the "Ocean" or Water itself is some sort of "Deep Soul" like how Humanity is the "Dark Soul"?
Just a thought.

I think the placement of the serpent statues around that cage implies thats they were the 'angel' that spoke to that bird woman.
>>
>>335673343
Well like you said, we know from their primordial titles that they're old as fuck, likely older than the first flame itself, and Kaathe at least professes to know exactly what went down as early as when the first flame was initially discovered.

What DaS3 does give us is the serpent ring descriptions that say that serpents basically amounted to incomplete or failed dragons. Maybe the primordial serpents were the evolutionary failures of the everlasting dragons?
>>335673426
Do we really have anything that supports Aldia being the First Scholar other than just the title Scholar? Is he actually mentioned anywhere? And Aldia may not have wanted the fire linked but he also didn't want the dark either, and it seemed like the prince was content to just let the fire fade.

I don't think Irithyl is due to the painting leaking, or even that Irithyl and Anor Londo are part of the same region. Both the opening cinematic and the pyromancer's word confirm that the fire-linking lands are transitory and converging. We can see this at play in the kiln. I think both the profaned capital and irithyl are built over eleum loyce. profaned capital items mention an oracle (alsanna was titled as an oracle in DS2) and a both areas deal with a chaos/profaned flame deep below. Most of Anor Londo is straight up missing, as if it just appeared. We already know that Undead Settlement and the High Walls aren't from the same region. The High Walls are just mentioned as cutting off contact with the undead settlement. That doesn't sound like normal wall building to suddenly lose contact. Furthermore Carthus is a desert and the catacombs, which are presumably part of Carthus, are below a forest.

I think the Kiln is acting as a black hole to get relinked and its dragging lands where a fire linker has died together to get one to link the fire.
>>

The combat doesn't have to underwater per say. The DLC could easily have you explore the Dark Souls version of Atlantis, which fell due to its worship of the Deep.

You and the poster in your image are misreading the quote. It's saying that the description of Soul Geyser in Dark Souls 2 is erroneous. That's the one that calls it a family heirloom, the quote is claiming that it should've read as Aldia's legacy instead.

Adding to this theory. I think Farron's keep is suppose to be from Lordran, there are unusual amounts of references to Dark Souls 1 in that area. Its the first area where you encounter a black knight. There are murals depicting Nito, the witch, and the 4 kings at each of the fire you put out, and it is heavily implied to be the place when the real Havel died to a demon. The Abyess watchers are also implied to be the earliest Lord of Cinder in the game.

I think Gwynevere marries and bares the children of the king with the biggest castle after each linking.

>>335674254
How about a picture of all those unknown gods that still don't have character designs like Flame God Flann.

Why is a God of Flame so unconcerned with everything happening around him when all that shit involves fucking fire?

it's doesn't sound silly at all. The thing I always like to come back to is the fact that ALL the lord souls, including the Dark Soul are a product of the First Flame. In a sense, both the Age of Fire and the Age of Dark are both Ages of Fire, just different types powered by/associated with different aspects of the first flame.

That the Deep is associated with Water and Sea, rather than fire makes me feel its something different. Plus, there's still a lot of a references to the abyss and the fires of humanity in DS3, but never at the same time as the Deep
>>
>>335674580
Flann obviously died or went crazy or got eaten or some horrible thing, why else would Gwynevere leave him for Oceiros? She seems to have a pattern of fucking off just before shit really hits the fan so I think Flann is as good as dead.

So why is Havel in Archdragon Peak? Is that not him in the first game?
