It isn't anything like the first one and doesn't even really build on any of the lore from the first one aside from some very minor shit in Orr that I imagine no one even does anymore since it was hardly relevant even shortly after release.
I haven't played it in years but I can't recommend it after seeing months and months go by with no content, bug fixes, or updates of any kind beyond cash shop additions.

I loved GW1, so much so that I preordered GW2 as soon as it was put out.
I think I stopped playing GW2 after a month or two. Logged in once or twice for holiday events, but haven't been back in years.

The combat is shitty and feels weightless.
End-game is literally just: Collect stuff, then collect more stuff to unlock skins.
One of the main "goals" for end-game is getting legendary/ascended gear, which is essentially just an extremely overpriced ascended weapon.
It'll be fun but once you start making more characters and know your way around the game, then it will get boring as fuck, PvE-wise.
You're literally doing the same shit over and over, from level 1-80 almost every quest is: Collect shit for someone, kill shit in the general area or escort some random asshole somewhere while scripted hordes attack you on the way.
You get every main ability at level 8, most of the 6,7,8,9 abilities are garbage or very situational, so you get the good ones and just stick with them, which gets boring as fuck.
Most builds are either power or condition, certain builds are just flat out better than others, you can do stuff with shitty builds and weapons, but in the end they just come off as gimmicks.
