There are people here who have defended it to death, in spite of the fact that there are barely any alternate routes, it's only about 3 hours long and has no multiplayer, it's easy and doesn't have an expert mode, the controls are annoying, the framerate isn't always a solid 60 FPS (although it was delayed specifically to make it 60 FPS) and it's 50 dollars digitally, 60 dollars bundled with Guard

I like the game, but the Andross fight is cancer.
I really like the game. Not as much as 64 but it is a really fun game in its own rights.
What I liked:
>Ironically enough, the controls really did add to the experience and made me like the game a lot more. If this were standard 64 controls I don't think I would've liked it as much. There's so much more freedom in piloting your Arwing
>All-range mode is vastly improved compared to 64, as well as dogfighting Star Wolf
>Bosses were pretty engaging, even the recycled boss Cosmic Dodora had a pretty cool twist
>Pretty challenging compared to 64
>Banter is still here and pretty solid
>Arcade mode is fun
What it could've improved on:
>More interesting objectives instead of shooting down the cannons of a ship for the 2nd time or defending the Great Fox from asteroids for the second time, at least Sector Y has you juggling between shooting down the missiles and protecting your teammates and the Great Fox from enemy drones.
>A glaring divide between more developed missions(pretty much all the main story missions) compared to the alternate routes
>A good balance of on rails and all-range mode would've been appreciated, despite how much I like all-range mode.

The game sets itself up very well for a sequel to improve on all of its problems like with DKC Returns to Tropical Freeze.

If the game had at least three more areas + alternate boss everything would have been gravy. I actually really like the controls but without more content I'm just left thinking it's alright.

I should clarify and add on to my statement. DKC Returns borrowed heavily from the original DKC game, almost making it feel like a reboot or remake, while Tropical Freeze heavily expanded on DKC with more creativity in its level design and feeling more like a competent and original game than Returns. I think that Zero was experimenting with the new controls while staying close with the game it's being based from. A potential sequel could expand heavily on what worked in Zero and 64 while being more original in terms of plot and levels.
