Learn to fly first
To do that just do the training a bunch
Then practice it in games

Do the tutorial numerous times, so you can master every position.
Practice hitting the ball while flying.
Exit ball camera mode when you aren't in proximity of the ball.
Always assume someone has a better angle than you.
Keep your boost at max for emergencies.

Rule #1, and this goes for everyone:
If you're going for boost, fucking commit to it. Don't back down for a teammate because they're going to assume you're grabbing it since you're closer, leading to neither of you getting boost and your opponent probably grabs it instead.
