The gameplay is imbalanced to hell yet still quite fun, with filling the DigiDex being incredibly addicting.
The writing is a verbose and poorly translated trainwreck that had me mashing X sometimes.
It has some cute girls too if you happen to care for that.
Go for it if monster raising and difficult turn-based battles (on hard mode) appeal to you and you won't be disappointed by a sub-par story in your RPG.

It's the same concept of going out and killing monsters over and over and making clothes out of their skin but MH and Toukiden play very differently to me.
MH is slow and weighty. It rewards patience and cautious play and is absolutely satisfying as hell when you get good. It's hard to get into but worth it, at least to me.
Toukiden was a mad rush to deal damage. Healing is instant and you're fairy mobile, but individual blows are really not satisfying at all. I think it's best for if you don't really have the dedication to deal with MH's very slow startup and learning curve but want to kill cool monsters and make swords out of their shinbones anyway.

Oreshika is pretty cool, but it emphasizes grinding to buffer the play time. You can only beat the boss on certain dates, and you have to find them in a big dungeon, so if you miss the boss, you have to wait till the next generation. If you fuck up the generation, then you can't beat the boss, and have to wait until the next generation, etc. The concept is very cool though, and the possibility of getting a genius is neat. It's nice for natural story building and genetics enthusiasts. I'd recommend it.
