Yeah unfortunately with figmas you are better off buying as soon as its released or it may jump sharply in price and drop in availability less than a few months after release in Japan, and buying from Amiami or GSC is still cheaper with EMS most times than buying it once it releases in the US and is up on Amazon for $65+
You have to have a good idea that you really do want what you're buying, because you don't have the luxury of waiting and holding it off always, as it may just fall out of reach, this is so unlike videogames, which only decrease in value and availability as time goes on.

But they're expensive as fuck and only getting more expensive, Hot Toys, the company making those Star Wara figures with Sideshow are charging insane prices, $250 or more, its only for those who can really afford them.
There are 1/6th anime figures too like that Shinon or this Ryuuko but they are also expensive in the range of $100-150, so if you like posability but don't have the money to spare for 1/6th figures, figmas and the like are your only options.
And like I said, statues are a waste if you like making kitbashes and doing more with you figures than just standing them there looking pretty, especially if you don't have the money to justify it. For their price range, figmas are perfect for that.
