>b-but multiplayer!!

Fuck off imagination less retard, not every game needs mp. This is about the journey not the destination, read any of the dev interviews they never mention pvp

>tfw exploring literally billions of Galaxies each with billions of varied planets

>hostile attitude towards people who have a differing opinion about the game

Why do you do this, Anon

How people think there will be enough planets to actually make the game interesting for more than 10 hours are fucking delusional
>>
>>335111186
This supposed to be funny?

Retard
>>
Oh no you can already do this in 2D on starbound it's pretty fucking bland by the third planet.

Do you think they actually put more than 15 aliens, a dozen types of element tiers and a dozen planets? Every planet will be a mix of a dozen variables as bland as "grass color" randomized to a few dozen options each. It'll be boring after 15 hours, 25 hours if its good.

However seeing as they haven't really showed off any mechanic besides the only impressive one, the persistent transition from planet to space, I'm assuming the rest is bland.

This is still an indie game people. Their last game was a mobile phone game that was like Trials with action figures.

No, the funny part is that you'll pay sixty bucks for it.

This game is gonna be great. Everyone agrees, the game has great potential. So there's no problem with this game, believe me... It's fantastic, unreal. The game is gonna be so good you wouldn't believe! So good! People tell me, especially at work, that this game's immersion and the procedurally made worlds are better than anything they've ever seen, anything! And that's not just me saying this, many, many people are saying this, they're saying this game - wow, No Man's Sky - there's so much immersion and it's gonna be so good, so good that they'll get tired of saying it was good, they'll say, the immersion and exploration options the game has, there's too much we can't stand it!

repeat after me /v/: procedurally generated content will never amount to engaing, interesting, challenging, fun or enjoyable gameplay in a video game. ten trillion stars and planets are just a bullet point for the marketing department - it does not translate into something worth spending time on.

Oh look, it's another winter planet, the trees on it are blue instead of red. Oh look, another desert planet, the rocks are black instead of brown.

the algorithm behind it are built with the limitations of a PS4 in mind.

They have had 2 years to design creatures don't you think they came up with enough different body parts to make at least a couple hundred thousand animal types? I mean even earth alone has that plus this game let's you seamlessly fly out of an atmosphere into another that's amazing and cool
>>
>>335112004
Pretty much this. You can't just ship a procedurally generated game and call it a day; you also need to handcraft a bunch of actual features. The generation should only be a background to the actual content, not the entirety of the content itself.

You either need real content, or you need multiplayer so that you can fuck around in the generation with your friends. Ideally this game would have both.

Is there any controllable warp speed. Obviously not, so the exploration will consist of load screens between planets and their moons. It would be cool if you could actually tracvel at high speeds, and stop whenever you want, but the game probably won't be able to stream in the data fast enough.

>uninformed
We've seem the same thing with other games. We're not uninformed, we know the pitfalls of procedural generation.

Take Starbound for instance.
>procedural star systems
>with procedural planets
>with procedural biomes
>with procedural colors
>with procedural dungeons
>with procedural animals
>more star systems and planets than any one person could realistically explore
Extremely similar in this regard. Starbound devs could also make outrageous claims like "it would take you over a lifetime to see the billions of planets" and it would technically be true. But go try it out for yourself and see how long you last before you've seen everything the game has to offer..

Seriously give it a try. Pirate it or something. Go see how many hours you can put in before you've felt like you've seen it all, despite the fact that you've only explored a miniscule fraction of a single percent of the total number of planets in the game.

Hint: It'll probably be in the double digits.

There will obviosyly be more variety than these guys are saying but the point still stands, once you start to recognize the limited number of pieces the game will be boring. It's just like borderlands 7 bajillion guns; at the end of the day a fucking shotgun is a shotgun.

>>
NMS is an elaborate message to the gaming community, to force everyone to finally and decisively realize that procedural generation is not a substitute for content.
>>
>>335115289
Yeah, it looks like there's more content and such in general, but just because it has more content doesn't mean it isn't subject to the same pitfalls. OP's talking about exploring billions of galaxies and then calls everyone else uninformed, when experience shows that

The amount of planets isn't the deciding factor in what makes people want to explore and see them. It's the opportunities they offer to the gameplay. I've dumped hundreds of hours into games with only a handful of small maps, but less than 100 into Starbound and Elite Dangerous, which both have a virtually infinite number of fairly large maps. FUEL was also one of the least interesting open world racing game maps I've ever seen and the only racing game I've ever returned, while games with (mostly) handmade maps like The Crew and Burnout Paradise were really enjoyable.

It's the game that makes people want to play it, not a bunch of superficial, but ultimately repetitive and/or empty content. It's the quality, not the quantity, and procedural generation doesn't offer quality.

Insanity.

Creating a game with an enormous amount of content is not hard. the interesting part is to fill it with meaningful content. If No mans sky has that remains to be seen, but desu honest it looks like it could be a really cool game but it will probably get very boring at some point.

And Skyrim had unlimited content.

Yeah, those didn't get boring fast. I'm sure everyone did tonnes of them.
