the challenges are really fun. I hope they add the spring mode soon. I like scavenging and hunting without worrying about freezing my ass off every twenty minutes. Love the game tho.

It kind of becomes spring mode once you get all the animal gear.
I'm really glad they changed it so you can only sleep when you're tired and added cabin fever. Hibernation was super OP.

Start in Coastal Highway for the easiest learning curve.
Thirst and cold will kill you fastest, always stock up on water by melting and boiling snow. Don't be scared to start a fire outside if you're freezing and losing condition away from buildings.
Hunger is relatively easily managed and takes forever to kill you
Your primary objective should be to find a firearm or make a bow/arrow. Without either you've going to start to run out of resources after a week or two in each region.
You can scare away wolves with flares or torches.
