This reminds me of that pile of crows in Bloodborne in Hemwick, but one of them is completely passive for no reason and programmed to be that way.

I backed up my save before all this just in case, so I can always go back and try to take him to the Road of Sacrifices IF he can actually go into boss areas (most enemies just run at the threshold and backup).

This is an interesting crab for sure, but there was another special enemy in the catacombs, one who doesn't attack.
After the first big rolling corpse ball, there's a zombie guy wearing a hat in a hallway. If I got close to him he'd move further down the hallway and then wait for me. Then he stopped outside that alcove with the huge amount of pots and wouldn't move from there.

I just don't get it /v/. Why does From hate invaders? I'd say about 80% of the time, a standard red eye orb invader doesn't stand a chance. Which is annoying because there's a covenant dedicated completely to invading. 75% the time there's at least another phantom in there already, and most of the remaining get a blue sentinal coming in like it's his business or they panic mode run around summoning people. You don't even get anything to make up for the lack of numbers, in fact you are penalised for it for no reason.

You don't have to enter the poison areas, the Farron Keep Perimeter shortcut goes straight through the area with the Grus and a couple of Darkwraiths, then you continue through the area with the bonfire and the door at the end leads straight back into the Crucifixion Woods.

You have to get the mother crab to defeat the others so that it can be safe.
Giant Crabs in Road of Sacrifices can be seen killing smaller crabs, probably those that aren't their own offspring.
You have to kill the aggressive crabs with momma crab before baby crab will be save to go to her. Momma has to be the one to kill them or she won't feel she is adequate to protect her baby.

You need to go down the ladder inside the big circular bonfire room, then exit out a hole in the wall. Follow the path and you'll come across a gargoyle and a tunnel leading into the right wall. Inside there's two crystal lizards and a pair of holes; drop down either hole and you end up in a toxic lake full of human-centipedes in front of a blue building. Those hand-ogre things are inside.
Protip: Bring a bleed weapon or Carthas Rouge. They seriously have a fuckton of health, but bleed in 2 hits and like stuck pigs.

I wish there was some way to filter out messages and bloodstains, cause I like joke messages or ones for illusory walls, or knowing a bonfire or shortcut is around a corner when I have two paths to pick,
But I LOVE being surprised by the game like that, and being rewarded if I'm prepared.

Same. When I bought the game I didn't have PS+ and so I played for the first few days in offline mode. When I got back online I realized how obtrusive and ugly the signs and bloodstains make the game.
Also thanks to being online I'll never stumble into a boss unprepared again, outside of every boss room are enough summon signs to paint the entire ground. It's incredibly telling and a bit disappointing.
I didn't kill the second skeleton ball (didn't free rudy) because I wanted to gtfo spooky place immediately. All the embered crabs are aggressive toward me.

Did they instantly kill you in 1? I thought they just halved your health until and after you died. I seem to remember getting cursed and then getting killed because my health became so low.
