5 certainly had content issues at launch and yes a lot of the free shit is stuff that should have been there to begin with, but they've done a lot of other neat shit.
Such as overhauling the color system by allowing manual color section for emblems and adding new colors to use for spartans, and adding a ton of new controller options such as deadzone settings and acceleration settings for both axes.
So, you should hop back on and see if messing with those can fix your aiming issues, as the addition of them were intended to help fix the problems people complained about with aiming.

Not as good as the original trilogy, and the main reason is because the campaign has gone to shit.
I have nothing to say about multiplayer, that was always the "extra" feature to me. It was always about the campaign and the story. Since 3, the story has gone downhill. The new weapons and enemies in 4 were also all forgettable, at least as far as their use in the campaign goes.
And I also don't remember any substantially big, open areas like there are in the first three games; they kept things restricted to smaller environments, because the graphics were a leap ahead from 3 but on the same platform (hence the insane texture popping that makes Halo 2's look tame).

It's hard for me to agree. While I do think 4's is all around better at a technical level, the story being as ass as it was really makes me think otherwise... playing CE for the first time when it released felt fresh and awesome, I loved the story back then. Even if the second half of the game was literally the first half in reverse with enemies far less interesting to fight (Flood was boring as fuck until 2, when they could do more things like man vehicles, and even then they were less fun to fight than Covenant), the story held it up for me, along with the better soundtrack (I like it more than 4's at least) and the fact it felt much fresher then.

If you don't like regenerating health or limited weapon carry or console shooters in general that's fine, but Halo 1 was very different from shooters of its time by doing all of those things and doing them well, and it did them on a console that no one had real experience because it was brand new so it was even harder. The sequels largely carried on from there, and until Halo #[insert when you stopped caring] (probably Halo 4, arguably Reach) it was actually something of a bastion of old-school design (having color to it, having serious difficulty to it if you choose that, not trying to shove a bunch of gimmicks in, having personality) in a field full of Call of Duty and Gears of War and other things that copied it and took off in other new directions.

Forge World is not the same as anything from Halo 1 outside of the gulch section. The little Forerunner bits have a somewhat similar look, that's it.

343 doesn't support it. They left gametypes and Forge features out of Halo 4. After that they left more gametypes out of Halo 5 and added the Forge features back plus some new ones but left out a bunch of pieces including some that effectively were features. They took forever to add more gametypes in Halo 4 and they're taking almost as long in Halo 5.
There are some people who still do customs though, like me.
