It certainly pioneered aspects in videogame design, most notable world progression and lock on system. Sequels improved the foundations that OoT laid off and so did other games.
Is still a fantastic game but it shows is age in some ways, namely on how empty Hyrule field is, bad pacing of the story and and the series problem with the lack of well designed side quests.

Objectively, Majora's Mask is a better game IMO, is just that OoT allways get those points of "defining the genre"
Majora's mask handled everything that OoT did so much better and expanded upon it. It's sad that it's almost never brought up when people talk about good Zelda games
