Okay, so I've never understood the hate for BD. Granted, I never really looked into it, but I always see folks shitting on it for whatever reason. Is it because it exploded in popularity? Is it the reloading of weapons? I have loads of fun with it, so what gives?

Despite somewhat similar approach, BFE actually does gore much better than BD. Gore in BFE is fast, fun and doesn't get in the way of the action. The finishing animations are mostly quick and not too flashy. Gore in BD covers switches, periodically you will "wound" a demon, making it YELL LOUDLY as it turns into a bloody fountain, executions give you invulnerability and put you in third person (the last one is actually not a big deal since I understand they're both optional and would not be possible to do otherwise). The result is, Sam can be bloody but it never comes off as edgy as BD does.

Because it gets marketed as a "patch" for Doom, when the original is only outdated by its sound design being low quality samples.

Install Smoothdoom, perxistan' sounds that are literally the Vanilla sounds with more trebble, and a soundfont with better midi samples than FMOD's SHITTY defaults, and shit has aged remarkably well assuming you play is GZDoom with filters off

Sprites down age, nor does geometry or level design for that matter. They come off as stylized.

This is coming from a 22 year old guy who grew up as a dreaded Halo kiddie.

It pretty much overshadowed every other good mod that came out. Every time someone made a new weapon back or mod, the creators would get blasted with requests to make it compatible with BD. Problem is BD is a huge mess of code. Combine it with the fact the people constantly paraded it as the "only" way to play doom. I had fun with it and its an enjoyable mod. But most people just blindly hate it without knowing why.

How the fuck did the SNES port have shit more like they were in the original PC version?
Even the PS1 port changed and cut a bunch of the rooms. GBA Doom 2 was pretty neat, though.

Snes port is missing levels too, as well as every single ceiling/floor texture. Enemies lack rotations and the BFG is changed to a splash damage weapon. Don't buy into the SNES lies, it's just as shit as every other 90's console port

Monsters can't fight each other, but any moster of any species can hurt each other. So imps can kill each other.
Rockets fucking hurt though, goddamn. They fucking obliterate everything. Music is neat and I noticed that enemies don't immediately attack when they see you. It's like they tried to give you a chance to turn around and shoot before they make a noise and then they start attacking.

I wanted to replay Doom but I forgot which was the good one and then there were spergs posting a chart with 200 different Doom versions in it so I got bored and got back to point and click adventure games instead.

Fuck modding.
