With the addition tracking of things like Ignis' weapons coming back to him and swirl animation when Noctis switches weapons, doing it this way is significantly more taxing, because you are making more calls to ignisdagger.dll or airstepsword.dll or whatever they call the weapons in their internal coding, whenever the team fights, along with the additional animations the characters make in battle. Therefore, it would be a hell of a lot less taxing to just have static weapons that are just out all the time attached to the character model than calling those functions each and every time a battle begins and calling them over and no over in certain situations with the visual effects and then telling them to go away every battle.
You don't realize the intense amount of shit that goes on to make that look cool, hell, may people don't notice the characters call their weapons after you exit the "danger" phase.
