FFXIV:ARR's story was absolute horseshit, but they had a decent array of dungeons.
FFXIV: HW's story and characterization is better, but they made all the level 50 content extremely irrelevant.

My issue is that there are so many open threads of story they just leave unanswered. Like you said the Warrior of Darkness who showed up, attacked you, then he's never talked about again. FreakingEstinien being taken over by Nidhoggat the end of 3.0 HW... and again no one even mentions him until he stabs peaceful dragon-girl in the neck.
Garleans, Ascians, Omega, lost scions, Y'shtola's dying body or whatever. For such a story heavy game with Answers as the main theme they sure aren't giving many.

I don't have every job at 60 but I have almost every zodiac weapon as well as the hyperconductive DRK relic.
All crafts and gatherers as are 50, FSH is 51 though, and the only battle classes I don't have at 50 are MNK which is 55, BRD and NIN which are 50, and MCH which is still only 32.

It would make sense. Elidibus may be an ascian but he's not exactly working in tandem with Organization XIII
He's an "emissary", and while the Ascians in the group are named after the Scions of Light from Ivalician lore (opposite to the Espers, the scions of darkness, so Lahabrea = Mateus), there's nothing matching Zodiark. instead, Elidibus is the name of the man who was the Serpentarius Lucavi in Final Fantasy Tactics, and casted Zodiark.
If i recall he had civil conversations in all of his appearances.

Its a pretty shitty game. Endgame is like the most annoying mechanics from WoW condensed. Every boss fight is a set of shitty gimmicks and there is nothing else to the game but that once you memorize it. The community is absolute shit and that means you're not going to have a lot of cool people distracting you from how boring the game is. The world is uninteresting and too small to feel like there's anywhere left to explore by the time you hit the cap, and there's not even any cool loot to want to aim for once you do since everything of the same item level is only marginally different.

That global cooldown scared away the casuals since its far too boring. It might be easy enough for casuals to get on board but its boring. For others who have played MMO's before the global cooldown makes you want to throw up immediately and run. I think if it went F2P i'd play it for the story and look around the world at all the neato scenery it probably has but thats it.
What turned the game into a fad on /v/ for so long was its ability to bring people together but that slowly faded and the endgame dried up from what i've read.
That global cooldown is disgusting though, even if it isn't that bad at high level i just can't stomach paying money for the game when i have so many games on my list i haven't even played yet.

The reward is not really worth it for the time you put in. By now we all know the gear is going to be obsolete pretty fast. Forming a static of 8 fixed people is tough too. Weekly lockouts make it even harder.

The 2.5 gcd was meant to accomodate for console players and also the new to mmo players, which console players also tend do be. Basically accommodating for casual play. But the decision for 2.5 gcd and the combat design is massive failure in that regard.
Most casual players like mashing buttons...the same buttons. That means low gcd, low total buttons, which is what wow did. A couple mashable gcds, and lots of glowy procs. FFXIV however went the low gcd route (you mash but nothing happens in 2 seconds plus) and having to constantly jump to the other buttons before coming back to your first button 10-20 buttons later.

There were two things in FFXIV that caused me to stop playing after a month:
The combat is slow and boring. That's just too big of an issue to ignore. I can't try to push myself through a game or enjoy it if one of the main elements is dull. Everything is locked into long cast animations and it isn't very engaging.
I absolutely hate the idea of one character being able to main every class. Why do they do this? It strips away any identity your character has. I would rather roll alts and play a variety of characters to experience multiple classes. The fact you can be a mage, warrior and a healer all in one breaks my immersion.
These two reasons kill the game for me. It's unfortunate because I did enjoy the atmosphere, graphics, music, exploring, questing and all that jazz.

It really does not matter that you can level every class when you are completely wasting your time by doing it; in the time it takes to actually gear two classes up to whatever the current equipment level cap is, it will already be obsolete. But the whole world is made up of characters who are a jack of all trades. It isn't just you. That's boring to me. And playing multiple characters doesn't remove me from the game world. I do some light RP, a lot of it for my own personal enjoyment, where I like to come up with back stories to my characters in my head. When I played WoW and mained a Warlock I had my own story of who he was, where he came from, and what his purpose was. When I played my Warrior it didn't change any of that, I had my own made up fantasy about him too. If my Warlock was also trained to be a Priest and a Hunter and a Paladin it would completely collapse my identity of him.
I probably just make it a bigger issue than it needs to be, I can understand fine why people enjoy it. I could probably overlook it too, but I still think the combat in this game is absolute shit and I can't play a game where one of the main gameplay elements is boring to me.

All the tank stances have downsides. Blood Weapon is meant as your MP Regen for when you are OTing.
I never got the whole "specializes in magic mitigation" thing either, they literally only have 1 magic mitigation skill. All their other defensive abilities cover all damage or physical specifically (Dark Dance). DA Dark Passenger is just another form of mitigation. You do want to be hit during Blood Price but you can't have it up all the time. Don't really see why enmity combo having 10 less potency than the other one matters.

PLD is classified as the physical tank as it has the ability to block and has rage of halone.

My personal opinion is that the best skills are Choco Cure 3, Increased Stamina 3 and possibly Paradigm Shift. Choco Dash 3 is also pretty good but in late game its usefulness is limited because you run so fast that the boost is barely noticeable.
Using high grade covering permissions is unnecessary at first, since you can only ever improve a chocobo's pedigree by 1 (1 higher than the lower of the two parents. i.e. pedigree 1 + pedigree 9 = pedigree 2). Higher grade covering permissions don't roll better stats, but they can have higher level abilities. This is also somewhat unnecessary though since you can eventually unlock training manuals for every ability by completing the chocobo challenge races.
All grades of feed can be bought at the tack and feed trainer in Chocobo Square. Grade 1 costs gil, grade 2 and 3 cost MGP. Using feed is always a good idea since it only serves to put you above your competitors (using feed doesn't increase a chocobo's rating), so it just depends on how much you are willing to spend. Personally I only used grade 1 until I got my perfect chocobo and then used grade 3 to maximise its potential.

Most of the changes that were made to the game in the time since he left and yoshida took over were already planned. One of the first things to go were the experience penalties and such. Under Tanaka they'd already planned and designed the plotlines about the primals and the moon ect. Fights were already designed and redesign of the combat system was given priority over them.
Yoshida released the work done under Tanaka's guidance and everyone attributes it to him as having "saved Final Fantasy XIV" but all he did was leave a small team on to do what Tanaka would have done while he had them work on creating their new WoW clone that they can shit out standard content patches on with easy and rake in easy money.

Here's how it works: Your chocobo's actual race stats (those listed under "own") are not what is passed on. Instead it's the ratings under their parentage that have the chance to be passed on.
Say you're looking at a male chocobo. When it has offspring, it will look at the father's parentage and for each stat it picks randomly between either the male or female side. The sides it picks then form the male-side pedigree for the offspring. The same goes for the mother. It randomly picks between their parents to form the offspring's female side pedigree.
The offpsring's actual race stats are then also selected randomly between those on its male pedigree side and those on its female pedigree side. Effectively it's a series of coin flips.

You are essentially looking for two things:
A high "potential" - i.e. the maximum number of stars a chocobo can confer to its offspring based on the ratings of its parents
The chance to achieve that potential - For every stat that isn't the same on both a chocobo's male and female side, it's a coin flip on whether they pass down the one you want. If they need to roll twice, it's a 25% chance. Three times, 12.5% chance, etc. You want to get chocobos with high stats on both sides of the family so they can more easily pass it down to their children.

I'd wager Amalj'aa can't breed with Miqo'te, but that's just my assumption of physiology. It is implied that many Amalj'aa are tempered, but it can't be the whole population because the tempered have limited processes of their own and there has to be at least a higher caste that gives orders.
Given this, there is definitely a possibility that the Miqo'te females are kept for pleasure purposes for the Amalj'aa that retain their minds.
My personal theory though is that the spear part is more important than the wives part. Traditionally and for generations, Miqo'te female would've been the only regular captives. The U tribe is located near the Amalj'aa aetheryte, and only female Seekers typically leave the village. The Amalj'aa would keep the ones that're better suited for combat instead of sacrificing them to Ifrit, dubbing them spearwives because they serve a particular Amalj'aa or because they're spiritually wed to Ifrit instead of being turned into fodder.

It's way more involved than it is in most MMOs but the tank classes have less buttons to press than other classes and they skip over a lot of the mechanics that make encounters interesting.
That being said, every class has a lot to do at high levels and tanks usually have the responsibility of setting an encounter. Depending on your taste and style, it can be way more fun and way more challenging to play one than to play anything else because you're dealing with different things.
DPS are active classes that need to learn rotations, sometimes very complicated ones, and balance it out with their own mechanics and encounter mechanics.
Tanks are reactive classes that have simple rotations but require the most on-spot thinking in order to use abilities appropriately and adjust themselves according to more dynamic encounters or to their own group's play.
Healers fall somewhere inbetween in that they need to account for the group and situations like tanks, but they need to press a lot of buttons regularly and deal with mechanics like DPS. They don't really top either role in their difficulties because healing skills are usually more simple than DPS, and you have a larger margin of error than tanks due to encounter design and kits.

I've had a m+kb plugged in since my second month and I still just find it easier to switch between hotbars on controller, just muscle memory for everything. They were shocked when I said I only use the cross hotbar for quick class switching, just don't need it for weapon/tool skills.
