what are the artifacts and where do you find them?

Artifacts are objects that unlock modifiers for the game to make the gameplay different. Glass for example alters health values by reducing your max HP but also increasing your damage.
Just check the wiki for them. You can unlock them legit (good luck it's hard), or you can get a save file.

They are hidden within a few levels and are found either reaching a high place or pressing a few buttons in succession, the wiki holds the most info and your best best would be command which is my favorite
