Wrong, not even the most powerful souls can come back as the same beings - only their soul can carry over from cycle to cycle. Even if they survived right after the CU fight, they'd still have soccumbed, or been completely morphed, by the new cycle events. Not only that, but TWO cycles happened at the very least, if not more that we are not aware of.

The lords of cinder are basically just the "strongest souls" in the world. The abyss watchers have been fighting, killing and dying for an untold amount of time, all that death in such a small area was absorbed by just one abyss watcher during the fight in the form of souls, they had accumulated so many souls from so many deaths that it amounted to the amount of "power" a lords soul would have when it cumulated in just one person.I dont fucking know this is just how I saw it, the body absorbing the blood during the mid fight and his sword sparking up made me think that one of the abyss watchers finally achieved Lord status in terms of souls power. Wait, where? Doesn't pretty much all of Anor Londo turn out to be an illusion but everything gives you souls? The only exception is Gwenivere at the end and you can easily just explain that as she was made to be only an image and a voice so there wasn't enough power to give you souls while everything else was an illusion that could actually fight.

but that little extra reach is what i always felt like i needed in this game
with a longsword, it felt like enemies (mobs and bosses alike) were just out of reach, and just had the range to beat you on a trade. now i can swing after a dodge and just barely catch an enemy.
the staggering also seems to be more useful. i won't claim to know the poise mechanics, but with a longsword it felt like after the 2nd hit, enemies were done being staggered, meaning that 3h combos were certain death. with a claymore, every hit seems to stagger, and i guess that comes from the number of times you are hitting them in a given time period?
