So what party can I blame Common Core for: Libtards or Neocons?
>>334966492
A lot of common core is just little tricks and shortcuts that people naturally develop as they gte more skilled in math.
The problem is, common core is trying to teach the shortcuts and tricks first, without giving the kids a solid comprehension of the basics first.
Another example is how one 1ST GRADE writing textbook taught about "exemplifying values of social justice in your writing".

Their new form is identical to carrying except more verbose. Verbosity makes errors more likely, especially in children.
>>334966763
Someone said doubles?
>>334966460
the real answer to this is that Jack forgot to write in the "arch" for 10. he did 3 100s and 6 1s, but forgot to add 1 10 (for a total of 316). the parent assumed the 6 smaller arches were 10s, but really they were 1s.
common core is retarded and forcing that way of counting on kids is even more retarded, but you can still easily answer the question.
>>334965902

They're just trying to teach kids heuristics, and the teachers and parents have no idea what that means.
Common core is literally too smart for the people criticizing it. The point isnt to teach how to add at all, the point is to teach strategies for adding quickly without using paper, which is key to moving on to higher math skills.
People who are "good at math" learn these heuristics themselves (rounding and reaccounting, various visualization methods, etc) but they're trying to teach this shit to everyone. All math becomes a lot easier when you can do arithmetic of any magnitude in your head.

The problem is they either force specific strategies on kids that have even more trouble with them, or try to apply such a wide range of strategies for every method an individual kid might use that it just becomes a confusing clusterfuck of unnecessary information instead of just giving the kid a problem to guide him to learn and apply his own method.
We all did this when we were children. They've only changed it now in a misguided attempt to close the gap between white/asian and minority kids (basically it's just making everyone else worse at math and bringing them down to the retard's level).

The way the statement "Marty ate more pizza" and the following question is presented, one is expected to figure out how it is possible, not whether or not the statement is a lie.
There is a distinct mention that each person has their own pizza. By bringing attention to Marty eating his pizza and Luis eating his own pizza, it can not be confirmed whether or not the pizzas are the same or different sizes.
As such, the kid is a fucking genius. With the limited information he has been given, Marty's x Pizza must be of a size greater than Luis's y pizza in order for the statement "Marty ate more pizza" to be true.

Calm down, underage b&.
There's an island which is isolated from the rest of the world. On this island lives a tribe of people with a set of strange customs:
First, it's completely taboo to discuss a person's eye color, and no reflective surfaces exist on the island. The effect of this is that no one knows their own eye color.
Second, if a person learns they have blue eyes, this is a bad omen, and that person must leave the island the next morning.
The village is composed of 100 people: 20 have brown eyes, 50 have green eyes, and 30 have blue eyes.
One day, a completely honest stranger with green eyes arrives on the island. Unfamiliar with the tribe's customs, he meets the entire tribe in the center of their village and loudly proclaims, "I see blue eyes." All the villagers heard him, and they all know that everyone heard him. The entire village knows that the stranger is completely honest and cannot lie. After killing the stranger for breaking taboo, they then all ponder his words.
Assuming all of the villagers follow the customs, how many people will leave, and on what day?

Common Core is replacing No Child Left Behind, Bush's education policy
Common Core started in California
Objectively, Etrian odyssey untold 1 and 2.
Subjectively, anything else because every other 3ds rpg has some kind of major flaw that cripples the overall experience.
KH 3d and Fire Emblem Fates have fantastic gameplay but horrifically written stories. Meanwhile Pokemon Super mystery dungeon has good music and writing but "polished" redundant gameplay that can get very old quickly if it doesn't click with you immediately.
Pokemon XY-ORAS are the same song and dance with the novelty of being in 3d. The mario and luigi rpgs are decent but not as good as it's predecessors.
Bravely Default and Second have good gameplay and art fucked over by gimmicky pacing to eek out more hours of gameplay. Conception 2 should have been just a straight visual novel. Codename Steam is a poor mans valkyria chronicles. Legend of Legacy is just okay gameplay wise but has good music.
Person Q is misfit within the Nintendo library since it's etrain odyssey but with the baggage of p3 and 4 and thus cannot be fully appreciated unless you played those games. And then there's Paper Mario Sticker Star, which is just...not really worth talking about.

Common core specifies nothing about HOW things should be taught, it's merely a standard for what shit needs to be taught by which grades. >>334970168

>>334968612
alright let's take this bit by bit.
starting with the husband, it isn't declared in the scope of the problem whether or not he's aware of his wife's unfaithfulness, so we can assume it is possible that he knows about her lover and their affair.
Next we'll look at the assassin. Notice that he's referred to as an ASSASSIN and not a murderer - this means he was hired specifically to kill the husband's wife. Since it is highly unlikely that either the boatman or the lover hired him, and because the only person with motivation to hire him is the husband, it could be reasoned that the husband knew about the affair and hired the assassin to kill his unfaithful wife.
The boatman bears no relevance to the other four individuals. Considering this story doesn't take place in a specific time period, the idea that the boatman's purposefully spiting her by not letting her cross without her fifty cents doesn't hold any water - this story could be set in a time in which fifty cents was actually worth something.
The lover has no reason to murder the wife, for obvious reasons. The fact that he refuses to help her doesn't reflect any ill will towards her, because he just wants to not get involved with dangerous assassins.
The wife is a whore.
In order, the characters most responsible for the wife's death are
>the assassin (who directly murdered her)
>the husband (who hired the assassin)
>the wife (for being a whore)
several places
>the lover (who did nothing wrong - if you can fuck another guy's woman without personal consequence, there's no reason not to)
>the boatman (who was motivated by money, no bearing on the outcome)

So then how come Common Core "Math" is this broken fucking mix of numbers?
>>334970087
Well it didn't, obviously, because maths is the one topic that absolutely everyone who has ever been through school will say they hated. The amount of people who go on to math based higher education is tiny, and the ones who don't go directly into math (like people who go into other sciences, computer programming etc...) usually require a crash course in basic math to get them up to speed.
Math education really needed a reform and it's pretty silly to deny that. Whether this does a good job of it or not remains to be seen, but an awful lot of the criticism of common core I see basically boils down to "this isn't what *I* learned, therefore it sucks!"

When I see these math questions, they seem to be teaching children the logic behind math. It shouldn't be confusing at all. These expansions and number lines and rewritings, these are all methods that I use in my mind naturally to simplify questions and such logic had eventually allowed me to score 100% in AP Calculus, a 5 on the Calculus AP exam, and an A in Calculus 2. They are methods that came to my mind to help me further understand the traditional way of doing math.

All 30 blue eyed people leave on the 31st day.
It's recursive logic.
Basically if only one guy has blue eyes, he counts 0 and therefore knows he's the only one and leaves the next morning.
If there are 2 people, they will each see one. Since the next morning neither left, they will realize that the other person also saw a blue eyed and didn't leave because he assumed it's the other. So 2 people leave on the 3rd morning.
If it's 3 people, they go the same logic, just one day longer before they realize.
It takes basically number of blue eyed people + 1 days for all of them to realize what's going on and leave the same morning.

This is bullshit, because teaches are told to follow exact methods of teaching it. Part of the large pushback from teachers regarding CC is that it INHIBITS them from not only teaching their own way, but in a way that facilitates differentiated learning (meaning, teaching it in different ways to coincide with the different ways that different kids think). That's why it's called the "Common" core, because the kid in Nebraska is taught the same thing as the kid in New York. But in so doing, it limits individual growth to the point of being deterimental. Either the kids learn the way they are taught, or they don't learn at all.

Yes, but compare the amount of people who say "I always hated maths, I just can't do numbers" with the amount of people who say "I always hated english, I just can't do words". There's a significant issue with both competence and confidence in maths education throughout most of the world, and blindly sticking to old methods just because you're personally comfortable with them (when, again, evidence points to them not actually working very well) is not the way forward.

It's literally because black people do not have a high enough average IQ. If America was only White people, it'd be right up there with Sweden and Norway Switzerland, incidentally also White countries.
Funny how that works.

Yes, and how do they do that?
>9+2 is 11, carry 1
>6+4 is 10, add 1
Holy shit, how hard is that?
What the fuck needed to be changed and how does the CC system do anything except overload the kids mind instead of teach?

>"adults who have been doing math all their lives and already know how to do mental math easily"
And guess what, it worked.
>I don't see why you're so against kids being taught an easier way to do math
BECAUSE IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY MAKE IT EASIER.
It makes it harder for them to do it, and is only going to trash their perception of math when they get to higher lessons.
Show a kid the normal system compared to the CC system, and I can guarantee it will be better for them to use the normal system

The image you linked is a question to show that autists are unable to think from a different person's point of view. It has nothing to do with "extra facts", whatever the fuck that is.

Logical puzzles don't stop working because you're too lazy to think deeper about it.
Stranger that can't lie tells he sees blue eyes. Everyone in the village thinks along thees lines.
Case 1: I see 0 blue eyes. Therefore only I have blue eyes. I leave the next day.
C2: If I see 1 pair, I will wait. If That someone doesn't leave next morning, it means he sees also another pair. Since I see only one and he sees another one, it means I have also blue eyes. Both leave 2nd morning.
C3: If I see 2 pairs, I will wait. If it's only them that have blue eyes, they will each see 1 pair and leave on the 2nd morning like in C2. If they don't leave, it means they see another pair, which must be mine. All leave on the 3rd morning.
C4: I see 3 pairs. If it's only them without me, they all leave on the 3rd morning like in C3. If they don't leave it means they see another pair, which must be mine. All leave on the 4th morning.
CN: I see N-1 pairs. If it's only them without me, they all leave on the (N-1)th morning like in CN-1. If they don't leave, they see another pair, which must be mine. All leave on the (N+1)th morning.

>>334968612
Is this silent hill?
>>334970798
Alright, I think I figured this one out.
So assuming the hats given out are randomized, the next step would be to lay out all the permutations of this scenario.
So given 2 black hats and 3 white hats, the permutations should look like this.
O= white
X= black
The order of marks is guy 1, guy 2, guy 3.
X,X,O
O,X,X
X,O,X
O,O,X
X,O,O
O,X,O
O,O,O
So if guy 1 is represented by the leftmost column of this diagram, there's a 4/7 chance of his hat being white and a 3/7 chance of his hat being black.
So if he says his hat is white, he'd have a greater chance of being right than if he said it was black, and therefore that's what he says.
