I plan to help my other teammates, I'll do whatever the situation requires, the main reason I pocketed in TF2 was because generally it wasn't worthwhile to heal my teammates when my friend was doing the majority of the killing. If keeping the entire team alive is beneficial then I will do it, I'm not expecting to play exactly like TF2, but I have no firsthand experience with Overwatch. Also what's wrong with giving preferential treatment to someone when they do the majority of the work?

I mained heavy in tf2 compet, so probably a tank.
I find healing monotonous and cuckish but enjoy helping the team, so maybe someone like Reinhardt or Zharya
The funnest and most enjoyable tank looks to be Roadhog though, that hook man.
It's nice for there to be tanks in an FPS, something somebody has really done to this degree before.
As for damage dealers, 76 looks pretty beast, and I'd probably enjoy Bastion just as I can play him one handed.
If I can to go support, Lucio looks rad.
I'm just really looking forward to it, not been this excited for something since first week at uni.

Offense - Focus on mobility and outmaneuvering opponents in fights
Defense - Focus on zone control and protecting objectives.
Tank - Focuses on resilience and straight up slugging it out with opponents.
Support - Reinforces allies through various means.

Bads play Bastion because he has a low skill floor. He's one of the easiest characters to pick up and play, and against other inexperienced players Bastion is also very powerful. He's also the single easiest character to outplay, more experienced players will trounce him with ease and at higher levels Bastion has minuscule impact. He's extremely squishy and he also has to render himself immobile to maximize his DPS. In a game centered around being able to stay on the move while pressuring objectives or opponents, that is a very bad thing. Not to mention the maps have tons of ways to get around when you utilize a hero's tools properly.
So yeah, get good.

No shit, that's the point. He sacrifices mobility for raw damage. And Bastion can be displaced. The counter to Bastion is flanking him. Utilize your mobility and the map to get around him and take him out.
I played Junkrat the most in the beta weekend. I'm surprised that he's a lot more like TF2 demoman than I anticipated.
Putting a mine on a wall and knocking people into my trap, then again blowing the fuck out of them with my launcher, is the greatest thing in the world.

Every hero has plenty of others that counter it. The only disphits who believed things were overpowered in the beta were the ones who mained in the first place. Take Bastion, who everyone was whining about. Genji can deflect all his bullets back at him, Junkrat can use his tire, Tracer and Reaper can teleport around and behind him, Widowmaker and Hanzo can snipe him, and Reinhardt can shield or charge him. And that's all I found and used every time one of them hunkered down. The whole game is about switching heroes to counter the enemy. If you can't do that, you'll just keep losing to that "overpowered" character even if you try playing him.

There are tournaments for Overwatch for Overwatch on a semi-frequent basis, so I am not talking out of my ass, it is you that is misinformed. Bastion has one of the lowest pickrates in the game at high levels because of how easy he is to beat and the fact that he really doesn't get anything done unless people conga-line into him like retards which newcomers are apt to do. To get the most out of Bastion you also have to be on the move, you cannot afford to stay in one place for more than 30 seconds at a time and you cannot be afraid to engage enemies in Recon mode. Again, Bastion needs buffs. If anything he needs his shield back, or to have his Recon mode be more reliable.

I'll probably play a lot of Lucio. He's my favorite character so far since even after whatever adjustments they made between this and the last time I played he's still really good.
His heal is kinda weak now but just hanging around your team helps and it prevents the frustration of say playing Mercy and figuring out that your teammates are complete retards who get themselves killed one by one.
His gun hurts pretty bad at short/medium range, he can take some damage, his ult isn't amazing but is useful, his wall run is awesome, and the speed boost is also awesome.

The real problem I'm having is remembering to Always. Be. Wallrunning. if you can help it. It makes you really fucking hard to hit.

I'm aware, and so am I. I have played the game, albeit briefly, and Bastion is incredibly easy to play around. Many of the people that played also played as if they've never used a fucking mouse before. Truthfully every hero in the game is pretty solid for pub play but Bastion is one of the weakest and it's people like you that will lead to him getting undue nerfs because they can't rub two brain cells together and actually think about how they play the game.

His charge attack does a pretty impressive amount of damage it you debuff first. Big thing about playing him is to keep a huge distance - luckily both his heal and debuff are only limited by line of sight and his beads are very accurate.

McCree, Soldier 76, Mei, Bastion, Roadhog, Mercy will probably be my mains.
I really think they need to tweak Tanks/Support. Tanks don't feel all that rewarding to play. Roadhog is the exception where he is extremely fun and will probably be a favorite for the Tank class. I want to enjoy Winston but his jump ability is more for mobility than damage and his Ult is only good for controlling a point. You literally just hold down a button to hurt people, that's his playstyle. Support suffers like Tanks where it feels like Mercy is the go-to character to play. Her heals are extremely powerful.

In competitive can players choose the same character? That was one complaint I had playing the beta. Having a team with 3 Tracers is lame as fuck. It should be 1 hero per team, no clones. I'm ok with the opposing team having the same character, but not your own team.

The "pro" matches I watched were pretty much like all tracer/winston/lucio.

I'm always amazed when I see people talking about maining in team based games like this. Talking about mains should be reserved for fighting games, and even then most players have a backup character, if not a couple, they're good at too.
In a game like Overwatch, Team Fortress 2, or any given MOBA the characters are simple enough that you can master a few and become pretty good with several times that many. In fact doing so will make you more successful, because not only will you be more versatile in who you can play, but playing characters is the best way to learn how to play against them.
I mean it's a video game at the end of the day so if that's what floats your boat, but your shooting yourself in the foot if you have any intention of "gettin gud."

So I wanted to start off by saying, I think the development team has done a pretty great job with the cast of female hero's in Overwatch. They are diverse, interesting, and compelling. From Mei to Zarya to Widowmaker the female cast reflects a large spectrum of personalities and player fantasies.
With that being said, lets talk about Tracer. From a marketing standpoint, she's the star of the show. She's a great hero. When we look at the way she's portrayed in promotional media, lore, and art in game we know a few things about her..
She's Fast.
She's Silly.
She's Kind.
She's a good Friend.
Her body seems to be comprised of about 95% spunk.
Almost all of her art reflects this. She's got cool skins, fun poses and amazing victory animations.
All of this art reinforces the great character they've built around tracer.
Then out of seemingly no where we have this pose. WHAT? What about this pose has anything to do with the character they're building in tracer? It's not fun, its not silly, it has nothing to do with being a fast elite killer. It just reduces tracer to another bland female sex symbol.
We aren't looking at a widowmaker pose here, this isn't a character who is in part defined by flaunting her sexuality. This pose says to the player base, oh we've got all these cool diverse characters, but at any moment we are willing to reduce them to sex symbols to help boost our investment game.
I have a young daughter that everyday when I wake up wants to watch the recall trailer again. She knows who tracer is, and as she grows up, she can grow up alongside these characters.
What I'm asking is that as they continue to add to the overwatch cast and investment elements, double down on their commitment to create strong female characters. They've been doing a good job so far, but shipping with a tracer pose like this undermines so much of the good they've already done.

That's wrong. If you mean all players overall, you are clearly wrong, as the most overplayed characters will be the ones that are good or fun for low level players. If you mean in high level play you're wrong in a lot of cases, as overplayed but good characters tend to have horrible win rates unless if you're one of the top players since everyone is used to fighting them. For a team game picks can definitely be skewed by characters fulfilling a unique roll more than overall strength, which simply makes them incomparable and therefore not something that should be even put on a tier list. For example, the Medic in TF2 is put on every team because he's the only class in the game that can actually do his role (Don't tell me Engineers are going to build dispensers in the middle of the map). That doesn't mean he's the best class in the game, it just means there's nothing to compare him with.

Well it must be said that I roughly said "generally". Pick rate does not 100% correlate to character strength. It often does but not all of the time. In Overwatch, there are multiple healers, not just one, and the characters still have strong situational uses so stats will become skewed at times. Lucio and McCree are picked in every game because they are very potent and flexible characters. Symmetra may be picked less often but that is because she's more situational in her use.

D.Va's effective range is short but she deletes squishies at that range and is extremely mobile with built in defense and can still fight once her mech is brought down, her pistol is very powerful. D.Va is a character that really needs to fucking go in. She is a complete Leeroy Jenkins and wants to fly around crashing into people and shooting them in the face. If you are not prepared to go ham at all times then you need to play someone else or you will be useless. Winston is good because his Jump is super short CD and gives him unparalleled chasing escape power. His shield is a great area of denial tool and can be used in tandem with Jump. You can shield the objective and jump to their backline and start going ape on their squishies and effectively have a presence two places at once. Or you can jump in, knocking everyone back and immediately drop a shield while zapping all those niggas from the safety of your sheild like a true wizard. Then once they move in you move out and the shield also works from the inside out.

I never got in beta, but from what I've seen, you really have to use guerrilla tactics with D.Va. Get in, preferably from flank, do some damage, and get out before everyone's attention's on you.
She's a designated tank that doesn't really play like a tank and I wonder that's what turns people off about her.

She plays very much like a Tank. Tanks are high damage attackers that rely on being resilient and being able to beat off others through brute force. D.Va does exactly that, she's just more maneuverable than other tanks, a trait typically reserved for Offense heroes. D.Va feels squishy though because the headshot hitbox on her mech is large.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a BRRRRT turret destroying the fuck out of things but making one a playable robot that doesn't any disadvantage to just sitting in turret form and spinning 360 degrees at all times it stupid as shit. If they limit his turning radius like how it was in early beta, that'd be great, or if he's extremely dangerous from medium-close range rather than being able to counter anything at all ranges, that would be nice too. In a way it makes me think of something like a battlefield game's mounted turrets not completely obliterating enemies like a real life .50 should, there just feels like little effort into his kit, if you will. It is especially terrible when you having a raging retard dying to Bastions nonstop and then wanting to be them.

I figured it's ok to be proficient with at least 1 character per role but I favor damage dealers over anyone else.
