The assult rifles used to have really good accuracy and a really nice damage range, especially for the two AR's and CAR Rifles. Combine that with a really good ammo pool and ammo pick up rate and you've got yourself a nice DW viable gun. Not that OP, but it was what the majority of players used. However when we got the Crimefest weapons rebalance in 2015 assult rifles accuracy got nerfed to shit, to the point where most SMGs are more practical, and pistols had their damage buffed to an actually OP level. You can kill all nonspecials in one hit with most of the good pistols.
Weapon stats don't really matter on lower difficulties though. Pretty much anything but the first rifle you get can do the job on overkill if you've got well enough aim. On Deathwish however it's a different beast, and we went from having a pretty decent pool of weapons to "lol pistols" as our meta.at least rifles didn't get nerfed as hard as shotguns ;-;[/spoilers]

That's a bad thing though, scouts are supposed to be demo's hard counter. TF2's problem is that they keep coming up with more and more weapons that completely neutralize a classes hard counter, for some fucking reason. You don't balance Rock Paper Scissors by making Rock stronger against Paper, that's just retarded.
