From everything they've said, Nintendo seems to be pretty laissez-faire and confident that Platinum knows what it's doing. They seem to be a hell of a lot better to work with than Microsoft or SEGA were, at the very least. I don't think the whole "what if Nintendo bought Platinum" fanboy wet dreams will come true, but if Microsoft's handling of Scalebound is as bad as it appears to be, I could definitely see them sticking with Nintendo for their original IPs while continuing to do licensed work with Activision and other interested parties.

I can count the number of games most of Nintendo's second-parties have made with other publishers on one hand. Game Freak did that Tembo the Badass Elephant game with SEGA and a self-published mobile game, Genius Sonority did one or two games for Disney, and that's about it. The only real exception is Monolith Soft, who still does a lot of stuff with Bandai-Namco (their former owners).
Platinum's contract work with Square-Enix/Activision/etc. goes a long way towards paying the bills (while also giving us some surprisingly decent licensed games), while Nintendo seems perfectly content to fund Platinum games on a case-by-case basis. Becoming a second-party of Nintendo's would presumably mean that Nintendo would either want a cut from Platinum's ventures with other publishers, or they'd feel pressured to make good on their investment and use Platinum as a support staff for their EAD studios whenever Platinum wasn't working on an original title. It's kind of an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" scenario.

They're not great but no, they're really not.
Amiibo DLC is pretty light, it's not a $50 season pass that locks out half the game's content like Battlefront and content from the base game generally isn't cut to sell later. Almost everything amiibos "unlock" is cosmetic or retreaded content, like the Mario Maker or Mario Kart's costumes or the mission replays in Splatoon. It's actual optional content most of the time, and you're getting a figurine too.
Most people buy them just to collect them and don't use them in games, Nintendo themselves came out and said they were kind of disappointed this seemed to be the case.
