I'm using this word completely literally here and not in the meme sense:

It's a visceral experience. An experience that can't be replicated by just watching a video of it. If you can't see the appeal, it's likely that you haven't tried it.

Because the game has to run at 4k and 120 fps or else it looks horrible. Basically the tech isn't ready for VR yet and they're trying to push it. This is the same shit that happened with PS1 and why the games look so shit now and aged so bad. PS1 gen should've been 2D still until the tech was ready to make 3D games that looked at least TOLERABLE

Well there's the virtual arcade stuff, and you could conceivably make one where the platforming takes place all around you or where you can lean in and look at things from different angles and shit. But overall I don't really see that many possibilities.
>strategy games
I hear those work surprisingly well. Give you the feeling of playing a tabletop game with figures that can move on their own.

I'm the guy who made both of these videos although the webm you posted was converted by a different person. The cube shooting thing got my adrenaline flowing leading to the shakiness you see. Also I was cursing like a sailor due to the finicky mag mechanics. The dev has stated they're working on it to make it a bit easier.

I won't buy a VR set, but I would not mind a /k/ game where you can just sit around and tamper with weapons. It's be cool to have a Workshop or something so you could download more weapons, fictitious or not, and dick around even more.

Interesting. Maybe add a kind of invisible funnel that adjusts the mag relative to your controller when it's getting close to the mag well?
I think I remember a talk by the London Heist devs where they mentioned working on a similar problem.

There is a seperate program called VorpX that can kinda do it for some games but it's a pukefest if you're motion sensitive as they were not designed with Vr in mind.

>>334919135
The biggest problem with replacing the controller with hand models is that if you need to interact in a close proximity with the controllers you tend to bumb the controllers against each other. This would be kinda bad with reloading and handling weapons (eg look at the revolver reloading)
>>
I >>334918556
That's literally what that webm is. There's a couple other levels, like a shooting range, and big warehouse with terrain, and you're given a bunch of extremely detailed weapons to fiddle with. Reloading by slamming the mag, having to pull the slide to chamber the first round, and it stays chambered when you reload, carry handle and optics to mess with, it's really cool, it's inexplicably called Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Handgrenades. This is the vr game that made that """video game journalist""" piss himself scared over how realistic and accurate it is.

Tracking
Probably better to have people be pressing buttons.
>>
>>334919729
Capturing the hands with something like Leap Motion means that you have to rely on gesture recognition for all of your input, it means that you can't do any haptic feedback at all and for now it will restrict the range and accuracy of your tracking.

Yo, late reply but, if I remember correctly, Alien: Isolation has partial VR support because some people found a couple of lines of code in the gamefiles to make it kinda work. It's got the 6 degrees of freedom for head tracking, but nothing is scaled for HMD use. That's what I remember.
>>
>>334927956
It probably uses an ancient version of the Oculus SDK, so I wouldn't bank on it working with the CV1.
