You can damage him even while his shield is up if he is in an attack animation.
E.g. you can strike his shield to force him to do a shield bash, while he's doing that, you can damage him as normal.

Not to mention, phantoms usually know what they're doing and have weapons perfect for killing the boss. That shit can ruin the fight completely.

the hardest boss is my computer. Whenever I try to load my save it crashes, or enter the name in new game. Even though the first time I play it works just fine.

Even if your phantom gets rekt in the first 45 seconds of the fight you're still having a huge advantage because you have plenty of time to damage the boss while they're distracted killing the shitter. The game isn't remotely designed for co-op so almost every boss is trivialized by summoning even a single phantom, even if they're a bad player, unless they're so bad they die before doing any damage (which is rare). Dancer is the only boss I can think of immediately that isn't immediately trivialized by the presence of another player and only because all of her attacks hit a huge range anyway, and she's STILL twice as easy with a phantom because she's not constantly on you.
