Actually, I thought the soundtrack was pretty amazing. If you look at it objectively as just a soundtrack, then yeah, it's pretty meh. Songs will easily blur together since over a dozen of them are literally the same song except with different instruments, played at a different speed, or remixed one way or another.
Within the context of the game however, it's pretty damn good. It delivers the messages it means to pretty well, they dictate the changes in mood very well since the artstyle/graphics don't quite deliver.
Some people tend to say it's just copypasta from other games and whatnot. Might be the case, dunno, if so then that sucks. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
The game entirely, however, is another story. I thought the game was okay, way overrated imo.

Undertale's major flaw, despite all other complaints ITT, is that the gameplay isn't quite polished, and toby spent too much time on the story. An extreme amount of time if you will.
Moderation would've dictated that he spend an equal amount of time on the gameplay and making it satisfying. sure, we would've had less story and little secrets to discover, but we could've had a hard mode. Asriel could've been an actual, non cinematic fight. Might've probably even gotten something related to Gaster.

I try to be reasonable with it. But when I see people praise these games as the best thing ever, only to go on and say that games shouldn't have long stories, the most prominent emotion I have is confusion. And I don't ask a thing from a game dev if I don't think they're capable of it. If I want a game that has little story, I'll cite examples of games that have the story that are the perfect length for me. I'll even cite games with longer stories that don't go over one hour. I'll give lenience for well made games with long amounts of story (but only if they're REALLY well made, that means no falling to common cliches like anime girls with bathing suits and tits everywhere, or grisly white men shooting guns, etc).
If anything, the reason why Undertale is even a 6/10 on the list I put above is because of many factors. The gameplay, while not great, is serviceable. It tried to be unique in an industry of anime and grumpy COD shooters. It has no DRM whatsoever, and you can buy it directly from Toby's website without mandatory steam installations and all that. (I like steam to an extent, but as a thing of convenience, not a mandatory piece of software).
Stuff like that. Coincidentally, it's a reason why I dislike many console games, because they're restrictive and locked down, all because daddy nintendo and mother sony decided that I'm not allowed a little leverage on what I enjoy, or how I enjoy it. It's the game genie debacle all over again.

I don't think Undertale was top shelf but it was fantastic for an indie game, that's for sure. It tried a different approach to a retro RPG, something that is normally bogged down with RPGMaker titles and samey bullshit. The combat was fun. It would have gotten tiring for me if the bullet hell segments didn't get a little tougher at the very end.
The story was great, though. It was a nice satire of typical RPG behavior and took a different approach to the "must acquire bigger numbers" style most games of the genre require. I agree with all of that, well, maybe not the cutscenes. I didn't find them too burdensome and I was too busy looking for alternate dialogue on the genocide route to want to skip it for the most part. I rather like when it pulled some 4th wall breaking shit because it did it rather cleverly. The Asriel fight was easy but still epic enough that I didn't mind. I 140% agree with more weapons/items that were useful since almost all the weapons were useless on pacifist routes.
Dunno if I agree with the etc, though. I thought their etc. was the best part of the game. The little secrets and shit were one of the cool things about the game(and probably a reason among the many why it was so linear.)

I will admit, I did like that it encouraged exploration for those curious, and alot of it was skippable flavor text that gave more life to the world. See, I can tolerate that kind of story and lore, ala Metroid Prime and its optional scans.
It's a nice change of pace from heavy hour-long cutscenes, that's for sure.

Salutations, my fellow Undertalians! We have had a long (and unnesessarily dramatic :P) history on /v/, making great progress in achieving recognition for Undertale.
However, over time it has become clear that we face two enemies in gaining a broader acceptance and acclaim for Undertale: Underhaters (people on /v/ who just "don't get it" *smacks forehead) and "neutrolls", those who lack the determination xD to bring Undertale to greater heights and gain it the recognition it deserves.
While it is true that we have gained a fairly good deal of recognition and acceptance for Undertale over the past few months, I can't help but feel that are progress is flagging somewhat. We can do so much better, guys! We need renewed DETERMINATION! You have to remember what makes Undertale special FOR YOU. You have to remember why you chose to be an Undertalian in a first place--whether that was crying when goatmom died, finding quiche under the bench, meeting Temmie, or seeing Asriel hug Frisk.
All in all, what I'm saying is: in the end, it comes down to you. Talk to your fellow Undertalians. Talk to me. Renew your energy and accumulate support. It doesn't happen without us, and it doesn't happen without YOU, one by one, each and every Undertalian. Undertale has only barely breached 1 million sales. It has so much further to go. The sky (or the center of the Earth if you like :D) is the limit!
