Why can't the west create good boss fights?
Because all our games are shooters with one-hit headshot kills.
Because most of them focus more on story or mutiplayer.
The Last of Us could have had some decent boss fights, but having a "realistic" story was their main priority.

There are a few western games that do boss fights right. Shovel Knight is a good example, and so is Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.
To answer your question though, it's because most of our games are the FPS type, since that's what the western audience wants. They want gritty, realistic shooter games.
This genre doesn't allow very much room for creative or fun boss fights. When bosses are in these types of games, they're just big ol' bullet sponges. These bosses just aren't fun to fight period.Also most of our games are movies instead of actual games, so that probably has something to do to with it.

Game looks like it would be fun due to the mechanics, but that boss battle isn't very interesting. It's not bland, but it's not eastern tier.
