So general consensus is:
>Minecraft without building
>spore without war elements
>only 10 diffirent layouts randomized 98 billion times
>60 dollar indie game
Is there anything nice you guys can say about it?
Honestly it looks pretty dope. It might not live up to the hype, but I can see myself putting a couple weeks into this game minimum.
I'm not a child or a NEET, so I'm going to buy it on GOG if it's optimized. Look forward to hundreds of hours exploring while listening to podcasts and audiobooks. Finally a space game that doesn't look fucking ugly.
>>334854318
It would take 10 years to discover every planet if everyone on earth discovered 500 planets per minute
But it would take me 10 mins to realize there is nothing interesting to do in the game No Man's Sky.
>>334854596
>But it would take me 10 mins to realize there is nothing interesting to do in the game No Man's Sky.
If you can't enjoy yourself in a vastly infinite game with infinite possibilities like this then gaming is not for you

The desert seems vastly infinite but I'm more than fucking sure you would be willing to be somewhere else and do something else after a short period of time.
As large as a ocean. As deep as a puddle.
>>334854318
that is fucking insane, how do you even put a price tag on a game like this that literally has infinite gameplay and gametime?
>>334854665
How does it have infitinite possibilities though? What a false statement from a faggy shill

I haven't seen this level of delusion in a long fucking time.
This is the same level of autism that BioInfinite fans spout.

Infinite mean immeasurable and ever expanding.
They got the number down so it sure as fuck ain't infinite.
this feels like Spore 2.0 aka improbved in every way

More like Spore Round 2.
Meaning more of the same. Looks awesome in concept but they fuck it up royally.
A fucking walking simulator.

>literally billions of the same planets

Seems cool that you can play how you want, like you can fly around space and never set foot on a planet.
But at the same what we have seen lacks any depth at all so just amounts to boring ass flying through space or walking across planets.

Ok. We all know these threads are being made by the one guy who will post "blunder of the century" threads after the game is released.
Trying his damnedest to make it seem like there are people who don't know it will be shallow so he can proclaim another SWTOR.
>>334855720
No multiplayer and no third person view so there is absolutely no reason to see your character. Your just a floating camera.
>>334855948
/v/ actually is anticipating this one and has been for years now since its announcement
>>334856127
There was quite a shift in attitude last year though
>>334855607
Are you fucking retarded? Do you think they went through and made every planet unique? There's "billions" because it's procedurally generated. New planets won't necessarily mean new things to do just different colored environments
>>334856036
>Your just a floating camera.
That's like saying you're just a brain
This isn't at all impressive.
If you have a pool of 20 planetary traits, and have each planet composed of 10 traits selected at random, you would end up with more than 150 000 "unique" planets.
Doesn't sound so impressive now, does it?
The game might end up being great, but this whole MUH INFINITE PLANETS shit is a dumb marketing gimmick.
>>334856221
When it was $60 confirmed project
>>334856227
who cares? they're still all unique from each other
>>334854318
One person discovering 500 planets per minute for 10 straight years is 2.6 billion planets.
6 billion people doing that means you have over 15 quintillion planets.
15,000,000,000,000,000,000
I call some serious bullshit, even with procedural generation.
>third shill thread today
>second one hasn't even hit bump limit yet
>>334856351
No they aren't, there's a set of planets that are repeated with some different tree placements here and there
>>334855849
Then what the fuck are you gonna do? Shit is be dependent on the progression system, and this is the best way to sparse the content and interest of the player in the game that will become dull in 30 minutes (assuming it would take 20 minutes for you to build a hyper drive and 10 minutes to visit a couple of planets that will show you 90% of the game's content). We are not talking about free title, this is $60 (SIXTY, SIX TENS) dollar release.
>>334856375
>thinks Sony doesn't know what they're marketing
>98,000,000,000 different angles this rock might be situated
sign me up
>>334856227
It might have been misquoted, but I read somewhere that if you leave a planet and come back to it later it just gets procedurally generated again. So it's not even saved as the same planet.
>>334856127
/v/ anticipated this game back when it was revealed. for like 4 months. then we learned as well as every-fucking-body else. that what they showed us is the entirety of the game.
So nobody is hyped anymore. Not for at least a year.
This will not be a blunder. It will go by almost unnoticed.
Threads about it for the week before and the week of release and then it will fall off the face of the earth. Just like every other release that isn't a Souls game.
>>334855659
Because there is ship customization? Not cosmetic, but upgrading ships mechanics for different things using resources is confirmed.
In terms of cosmetics, the ships are procedural as well, so there will be plenty of choices. Only small personal ships though, which is disappointing. Here is some of the variation in the fighter class (there's also explorer, scientist etc, with different general shapes/layout).
>>334856375
its all seeds, not finished generated planets
>>334854318
It'll make a nice coaster for my Star Citizen premium edition

>>334856248

>if you visit the moon and leave and come back 2 years later it won't be the same anymore
Umm, anon...
Well see. Since I played Minecraft I wish there was a game like it but based around exploration instead of surviving and creativity.
But what they're marketing doesn't seem like anything I care about. I want to know what the lands are like, if there's caves, good ambience, secrets, collectibles, etc. Many planets and animals doesn't sell me and the gameplay I've seen doesn't seem so great.
>>334856751

>If you never see your character and nobody else will either
what th efuck they were joking when they said it would take years for a player to find another player, they didn't mean that
My onky gripe is that they havnt shown how deep animal interaction or society is.
I would be upset if there are no predatory hierarchy, nests/homes, babies, social interaction or depth to the AI
Somehow i can imagine its not there
>>334856662
>Spend hours traveling across a planet learning about it's geography and wildlife and how best to survive on it

I would defend this argument but so far I've seen just planets with different colors. Nothing groundbreaking cause you can basically tell what is behind the next cliff...
>>334857082
But completely change to something new? No. They didn't "nail" anything, it is a bullshit gimmick.
>>334857145
I can understand why not. If they do have something like baby animals and animal nests i would be greatly satisfied finding it while playing, while if they show it off now it would sort of ruin the moment when i do it.
Then again spending time looking for shit that doesnt exist wouldnt be fun.

>>334857078

4. You can fly on a green planet.
Do I really need to go on? You're making this too easy.
5. You can fly on a purple planet.
6. You can fly on a yellow planet.
I'm not even close to being done. This game simply just has too much content. There's so much to do.
7. You can fly on a magenta planet.
8. You can fly on a orange planet.
9. You can fly on a grayish blue planet.
10. You can fly near a red planet.
I think you now understand how foolish you were to question the absolute cornucopia of content in this game. I literally don't even have the time to list it all out.
>>334856853

you can fly at a 1 degree angle on the z plane
you can fly at a 2 degree angle on the z plane
etc.
and all the combinations!
>>334857959
From what we know, the base gameplay is you walk around a planet, name animals and mine materials. You use these to craft basic items which eventually let you leave the planet and travel to a further away one.
The only deeper gameplay seems to involve the buildings/alien NPCs that live on planets. You learn their language by discovering stone tablets over the planet and this lets you trade with that race. Killing the NPC makes the race (or just possibly every NPC in the universe) hostile towards you, which makes traversal and gaining money harder. In theory.
The "general consensus" is that /v/ doesn't have a "general consensus" you fucking redditard.

They all have end goals, crafted narratives and worlds, and characters.

>>334859918
First thing: /v/ isn't one person.
People on /v/ hate Ace of Spade because the devs turned it into a retarded "minecraft with guns" instead of a proper trench warfare simulator. Giving everyone a machine gun was a huge mistake, and everything since then (especially the atrocity which is the Jagex remake) has only made things worse and even more unplayable.
Minecraft is hated for a bit of similar problem. Back in 2009-2010 it was presented as 3D Doft Fortress thing. People kept expect real mechanics and chalked off the simplisity of the gameplay as temporary since it was still in its early development stages.
But then Alpha was released and the game was still very simplistic.
And then Beta was released and the game was still very simplistic.
And then the game was "officially" released and it's been almost the exact same shit as what we've had since /infdev/, except with some absolutely retarded magical and pseudo-RPG XP & hunger elements shoved in at the last minute.
People are upset because they bought into Notch's lies and got the exact same shitty survival lego they thought is just the pre-alpha presented to them as the full game. We never got any of those multiplayer modes, we never even got a modding API.
Notch is a Jew.
You know, I have no problem with NMS being what it is right now. It's just walking sim in space with little stuff to do, it's a tech demo, that's it.
My problem with the game is that the devs and sony keep marketing it as if there is INFINITE POSSIBILITIES and fuckloads of stuff to do, and this is why you have to pay 60 fucking eurobucks for it.
That's just wrong and everyone who thinks this is anything new or that the game keeps you hooked up for hours doing all kinds of cool shit is fucking retarded.
It's a cool looking tech demo, that's it. Now fuck off shills.

Also notch being the lazy shit that he was and still is took numerous "vacations" during development an we still don't got a proper Modding API after MicroPenis took over.

Ever heard of the "loud minority"? There might be 500 people who hold opinion A and make 2 posts about it, and there might be 50 people who hold opinion B and make 30 posts about it. Opinion A would get maybe 1000 posts, and opinion B would get 1500 posts. Does that mean opinion B is in the "majority"?

You could tell your friends and the world what planet you are on and you would never meet each other because they would go there and not find you due to no actual player interaction.
There is no multiplayer and there is no face to face character interaction.

A freeroamer
At the base level, procedurally generated stuff is flawed because of the number of variables used is typically limited. This is flawed because this limit causes assets to be reused way more then they should be.
However, what happens if those variables are varied enough to make up for it?
For example, the numbers between 1 and 10. Have a machine randomly pick two in there, and add them up, and the results would be lots of stuff being the same, lots of numbers having been reused.
But, what if it was between 1 and 1 million basic assets? Mathematically, wouldn't this mean that the time it would take to start to see sameface with the planets be much higher? So the main question here, since sameface CANNOT be avoided entirely, how long would you need the game to be unique and interesting to justify its pricetag?
For myself, if I could play the game for around 100 hours, which comes out to less then a weeks worth of time, and it stopped being unique then, I wouldn't feel any buyers remorse then.
Really, they need to damage control. They need to just give a list of the assets being put into the generator, to show if its really going to be as unique and amazing as they say, or if its going to be a 2 hour experience.

KSP/flight sim mechanics but more realistic so it isn't some magic drive bullshit.
Massively multiplayer.
RPG elements with a lot of character being based on initial roll, class based, hop into the game ready to take on a role, minimal skill grinding.
Permadeath without clones, all experience is lost other than what is saved on the clone, credits are retained.
Detailed cockpits and ship internals.
Trade economy like all the space sim clones.
Some AI controlled RTS elements for managing resources and armies.
Space Engineer-ish sandbox ship creation.

And then once you get over there you might land on the same planet and then you will say, ‘I’m on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Where are you?'”
>The only answer that I can think of for this is a really technical one. If we were to make a game where we synchronized every player, what they were doing with every other player, then that would be impossible and no one has ever done that. What we can do is, like many games that you have at the moment, where you are flying around with an open lobby. People are coming into that lobby and leaving it – like if you play Watch Dogs or something like that. Effectively, we have players joining your discrete space. We're not trying to make an MMO where you can play with literally 60,000 people on screen. We handle the case like where other people can fly past in your game or that you can bump into other players in the game.
>But that's okay for us because it will never happen. I guess the whole of the entire community could organize to go to one specific spot and then they would find that they weren't all there at the same time. That would be ridiculous.

So when I am chased by bounty hunters, I can just visit the planet, have them die to whatever creatures exist there that they haven't experienced before, and leave to go destroy more planet stuff. I am going to be the worst kind of person in the game. My usertag will be something like "2 hours" to make fun of how long the fun lasts while playing the game.

I saw a video of a dev saying that you could see players but it would be astronomically rare. Also, they made it so you wouldn't know if it's a real player or an npc.
I think the greatest thing about this game is the infinite number of ways /v/ can ridicule it instead of the "infinite" planets

Top kek.
>meaning they allow for it. they have programmed it to work.
That's your own interpretation.
I'm asking for solid proofs, not your guesswork based on some nebulous statements.
Why do people keep saying it will fail like Spore? Spore got fucked by EA, this game will just not deliver on expectations because a small team of devs who's experience is Joe Danger games aren't going to be the best team for space exploration?
How does this game already have die hard fanboys who won't stop shilling for it?
>>334869185
if you want solid proof you will need the game in front of you seeing as you don't seem to do a very good job understanding quite simple, albeit cryptic statements. and let me make it clear: the reason they're cryptic is because they don't want the million idiots who populate these threads to get their hopes up about it being a multiplayer game.
you can see other players. you can't see an unlimited number of them and you probably won't see a single one, but the CASE for seeing them is HANDLED by the game's developers. meaning it is possible. this is something they have reiterated in multiple interviews and i just picked the clearest one.

Can you pair up and shoot each other? Can you land together on a planet and shoot generated Zebraraptors? Can you message each other or eject w/e loot system will be implemented if any?
Can you DO anything with the other player or is just waving their ship avatar all NMS "multiplayer" will offer?

They are clearly trying to confuse people into buying the game. I'm not even kidding, people WILL buy this game with the premonition that it will have multiplayer capabilities, when in reality they wrote in a few lines of code and made it so you "couldn't tell" when you're seeing another player or not. It is literally a scam and people need to demand they come clean. If not, as consumers we need to make sure they regret it when they're rated.
>>334869907

Most autistic thread I've seen in a while.
It'll be decent for a day or 2, then the content will run thin and you'll move on to the next game.
1 billion anything just means 10-20 slight variations of the same shit. No doubt they've made a fair few assets but nothing can be unique on exploration of this scale unless it is handcrafted in its entirety.
Its a fucking indie game, don't set your hopes so high.

>>334870557
because the fundamental concept of the game allows for it. the whole idea is that the game is procedurally generated on your end from a universally shared seed, and that you are 'exploring' the results of this. on a game of this scale, you can have everyone occupying their own small sector of and never interact, but statistically some people WILL interact, and that is interesting.
The shills are all-out today
>>334871253
>but statistically some people WILL interact
That is, if the game allows them to interact, which is very unlikely at this point.
>>334871139
Lol, that's a one shot dev house, they don't care. They will return to mobile market after spending all sonybucks on hash.
>>334871253
You seem to be assuming people will actually play this.
>>334870837
this obviously heavily implies that it is possible, and they go on to feed you information about how it works - that there is a limit on how many player characters can see each other within a space, it's relatively small but they don't anticipate it being exceeded, there are no UI signifiers that you are playing with another human, that you'll only be able to find out what you look like by having it described by another player, etc. it is more far-fetched to believe this is all a big smokescreen than just to accept the heavy implication that you can in fact see another dude playing on a different couch if you cross paths.
>>334871253
>enigmatic fundamental concept
>somehow implies hard code and infrastructure

HA!
My bet is that you will sometimes see some trail in the sky for a few seconds as a player travels near you. Period.
Anyway this vague as shit marketing scheme is irritating as hell and the devs can go fuck themselves even if the games turns out good. (It won't, bacause no game ever with marketing like this has turned out ok ever)
>>334871253
I seriously doubt you can see another person on a planet. They imply you can, which is deceptive, but they never explicitly say it, and the game is not designed around it.

Anon, please.
What you call "infinite possibilities" is just needlessly many configurations of a very finite number of things.
The creators of Skyrim could have used procedural generation to offer literally billions of quests, but it would still be a small number of quest types repeated a billion times each with minor variations.
If you just want to explore billions of procedurally generated planets, there's always Space Engine.
>>334872439
>What you call "infinite possibilities" is just needlessly many configurations of a very finite number of things.
i.e: the way the actual fucking universe works

>>334872551

IF NMS ends being a bad game, /v/ will become shitposting central with people going 'see I told ya'
Whoever wins, we lose.

>>334873004

>>334873046
i don't consider that wishful thinking as i wasn't expecting nor asking for it in the first place. i'm just picking up what they're putting down, anon. the important aspect of what you're doing in the game is simply your co-ordinates in the universe. if you share co-ordinates with another player, the server ensures you can see each other. that's all.
>>334873143
The point is they want you to spend $60 dollars on "the journey" :^)
>>334873230
Ehh... no, man, that's not what he's saying at all.

I bet 20 bucks this won't happen.
>>334872892
Say I burrow into a cool cave and I want to take another player there -- if I take them to that cave will they see it as a plain-old wall? Hello Games has insisted that seeing other players will be a rarity.
>And if it’s all fine because your tiny hole doesn’t matter, and you’ll probably never see another player anyway
So they don't actually bother adding functional multiplayer in the game, they simply design it in a way that it's impossible for you to notice.

It seems like what is going to happen is you will have a written story over the procedural stuff. So you have to grind to do the main story line.
>>334857691
Ok I think I'm starting to get you here. There claiming this huge amount of diversity. When there is a limit to the amount of assets a small indie team can create for the game to use to form all these things. So it won't take long to see all the combinations start repeating. Like in Borderlands they said they wanted to see a gun that would break the game where as that would never happen since they gave all guns a set of parameters it can fall into.

Also Faction ships, such as freighters/capitals and escorts, and sentinels on the planets (ancient robots protecting the galaxy trope)
>Is there a story?
The "goal" they've reiterated is to travel to the center of the galaxy, which supposedly gets more interesting (they described something like "letting the creator sliders deviate more and more")and difficult the further in you go. But yea, you can just ignore that if you want.
>Do you craft shit?
Yes, sorta. You use resources and blueprints found through exploring, trading, or raiding to upgrade your gear, but you can't make anything else. You have to buy ships.
>What incentive is there to visit other planets?
Gathering elements, completing planetside tasks, sightseeing. Most planets only have a limited set of elements, and they've said before that certain types of planets with certain climates will have different elements.

I almost want to buy Elite Dangerous since I'm autistic and have nothing at all to play until Stellaris comes out. I shouldn't buy it though, right? It does look like a scheme, but half of me is fine with mundane "podcast gaming" as these threads like to mention.

Well for me personally I want one that lets you go from ship piloting to FPS as well as giving the player access to capital ships and fighters alike.
Star Citizen looks right up that alley, but it will never be released so it's gets dumped on the pile of sadness as well.
Having the player be able to create and influence system wide economies by building stations, trade routes, or planet-based colonies would be neat too.

Yeah that SC fanbase has some real hardcore nutcases that get crazy. Almost as bad as the cock sucking faggots who want to see the game fail.
>oh wait
Game looks fun honestly. If it can hold me for like 100hrs then I'd say i got my moneys worth. Cant ask for much more than that

the game looked like shit from the beginning and if you couldn't tell that from the get go you're retarded, you ARE a child, and you have no one to blame but yourself when the disappointment comes crashing down

>being pathetic enough to write something so stupid that anons copy it for copypasta
