Why are platform games an endangered species now?
You can find thosands coming out on steam and mobile
http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Platformer/#p=0&tab=NewReleases
there's literally 70 pages of platformers on Steam right now u dumb faggot
What are you talking about? There are tons of indieshit platformers.

I rest my case.

They make up at least half the Wii U's library.
>now
There's platformers everywhere.
>BUT THOSE DON'T COUNT
Nigger, if you were going to cherrypick and play pretend, why'd you bother making a thread?

>things I don't like or agree with don't count.
You wanted platformers, you got platformers, beggers can't be choosers.
Indies who don't know how to think bring out platformers all the time.
The industry has moved on from the genre. It's been pretty rinsed for actual fun. Indies hop on it because normalfags care more about le retro or pretty graphics than actual fun mechanics.
>>334853140
>mobile
obscure games with awful controls, ads everywhere, microtransactions and generally poor quality
>Steam
obscure games with pretentious 'le tragicke 2 deep' stories, horrific pseudo-bit graphics and generally all-around beardy wank.
>>334852997
Nintendo have continuously released great platformers, for anything else you're stuck with indies and mobile games.

ITT: OP makes a stupid generalization and backpedals till the cows come home

that's not even an argument

I can't make a argument if you didn't have a point
>>334854270
Like saying a game doesn't count as a platformer because it's obscure and is on a platform you dislike.
>>334852997
Just buy a Nintendo system.
>>334854474
never
>>334852997
Psychologists can't figure out a way to monetize gated time mechanics yet.
???
The rise of indie games has made them popular as fuck again
Try Shovel knight. Dark souls platform edition.
>>334854354
my point was quite clear tbqh f@m. these platforms contain 99% crap.

That makes sense, I'd had the suspicion that was what happened to RTS when it was super saturated, but never drew the same conclusion about the decline of platformers.

Play Dustforce
>>334854738
This is some strong bait
>>334852997
Last original platform I enjoyed was Ori and the blind forest, it was released about a year ago
>>334855007
*edit* side scrolling platform

>beggers can't be choosers.
then why do people always complain about how bad PC ports are?
>>334853912
>The industry has moved on from the genre.
That happened 20 years ago, but they came back and it's not true anymore, even if Nintendo and indies are just about the only ones making them.
>It's been pretty rinsed for actual fun.
Nonsense. Platformers are a quintessential way to interact with a virtual world on a two-dimensional screen and control a videogame character. There are just as many ideas and possibilities yet to be explored as any other genre, if not more.
>>334853283
If you took the effort to look, you could find some decent platformers. You're not going to because you enjoy being an edgy hipster.
>>334855734
I think what was actually "rinsed for fun" was the hero mascot +1 platform game formula which all the AAA companies were shitting out for consoles.
Crash, Donkey Kong, Mario, Ratchet, Banjo, Jak, etc.
>>334852997
They're not though, at least not 2D platformers. They just had a big revival last gen and are still going strong, especially in the indie scene.
