Hey /v/ never got the chance to play dark cloud is it good?

I played it a lot along with the second. Probably one of my favorite PS2 RPGs.

Whats the combat like thinking about picking it up.
It has some pretty sweet white tigers in it, pic related.
A very relaxing game to play, you ask me.
I spent a summer on it, then Dark Cloud 2.
They're great games, and deserve your attention.
Has a ton of charm, and still holds up well to this day.

The combat is just hitting buttons to get preset combos mostly.
The fun comes in with the customization and weapon trees.
The first is a lot more simplistic and can be as grindy as you want it to be.
If you know what you're doing you can break the game before the hallway point and have the second or third best weapon for the main character.
I have a copy I bought for $3 but never played it as my ps2 was broke at the time. I should really play it now that I got a new ps2. Is it just a action rpg with some town building? I've never really done townbuilding but action rpg goodness is great, what should I expect for combat? Also is there actual story or is it just a "who gives a shit"?

Genie makes the world shit, you help put together characters towns and move on to eventually stop him.
Some okay dialogue if you give a shit about that, which I don't.
Townbuilding is very minor the first, a lot more complex in the second. You get rewards for building the towns based on requests from the villagers.

Dark Chronicle/Cloud 2 is far better and you can get it on the PS4 PSN store.

Sounds kinda like soul blazer which I enjoyed, thanks. Typically I like simple but charmingb stories but only sometimes, as long as it's fun to play I'll stick with it.

Dark Chronicle (known as Dark Cloud 2 in fatland) is better in every way, but the first is a really good game in it's own.
Take into account that it's the first game of Level 5 and one of the first PS2 games ever, so it hasn't aged very well
