Let's have a general Harry Potter thread.

Posting the coziest soundtrack known to HP on the gameboy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weNuHF2Pp8I

I still play Chamber of Secrets every now and again. Such a nostalgic and cozy game.
What is /v/'s favourite and why?

Chamber of Secrets on PC is probably my favorite. Prisoner of Azkaban is also good but it's way too short.

Philosopher's Stone hasn't aged well, the only fun I could get with Goblet of Fire was looking at Hermione's sweater puppies, Order of Phoenix was actually not that bad but console controls sucked, haven't played the Gears of Potter ones and don't intend to.

OP here, also posting the WORST Harry Potter game, though I'm aware that they were told to scrap everything (art, writing) and had very little time to make it good again.

I've personally found any Quidditch practice or tournament match to be tedious rather than fun, so it baffles me why anybody would buy a game dedicated to it.

Yeah, I thought anon was referring to the GBA version aswell. That part was very easy.

The only boss fight in the GBA version that was somewhat difficult was the end boss. I kept on getting poisoned until I learned the snake's patterns.

That''s PoA on the GBA.
The GBC games were RPGs too and they were really good, you should emulate those.

Goblet of Fire is a mediocre isometric shooter. Order of Phoenix is a maybe. Everything else is literally Gears of War.

You better believe it, anon. It's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the GBA.

It had a lot of potential, but is an extreme let down.

>>334816906
If your cartdridge still works, I would recommend playing it again (or emulating it, but I've got no experience emulating Harry Potter games so I don't know if it's the same). I'm sure it was just one of those silly moments in our childhood that we struggled so much on one part of a game, but then found it to be incredibly easy to beat once you're older.

Have not played them, but the kinect ones don't look so great to me. Most people tend to fuck around with the controllable animations.

My GBA got fucked because I threw it in a sandpit when I was younger and I never managed to get all the sand out, but my GBA SP still works fine apart from the suddenly-overly sensitive on/off slider that makes me accidentally turn off my vidya from time to time.

Well, it's all subjective. I prefer the SP because I loved how it could fit into your pocket easily, and be a square-shaped model when folded but not clunky. I just think they look better.

Why can't they just make a Hogwarts game where you don't play as one of the faggots from the books?

Everyone loved Hogwarts but hated the faggy characters. That's why we all loved the first four books but hated the last three as they focused far less on Hogwarts and far more on the faggots.

Just give us a Hogwarts game with no relation to the books fuck.

I played the GBC and PC versions

Pc version was actually pretty awesome, GBC one was fun to loop round and round but I always felt like I was just missing some secret upgrades since Ron's wand could always backfire and I never really got how damage worked in the last battle, sometimes that snake just felt like one-shotting me
>>
>>334820954
Probably Hufflepuff. If not there then Slyherin but Hufflepuff is way more likely. Don't fit anywhere else though
>>
>>334821449

This.

Though I'd set it AFTER the books, as Voldemort is long dead.

I'd hate for him to be the fucking central villain again.

I wouldn't mind some sort of open-world Metroidvania-exploration style Hofwarts centered around some Persona 4-like gameplay (class/dungeon).

In 4th grade our teacher was so into Harry Potter she sorted us into houses and every week we'd get points based on our merits in class (homework done, class participation, etc.). I was in Ravenclaw. Interestingly enough it was the Slytherin house that had the most points by the end of the quad and those bastards got a pizza party.

Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, probably.

I aced university and got an amazing job effortlessly, which would suggest Ravenclaw. But now that I have a secure, well-paying job I'm far too lazy and unmotivated to actually climb the corporate ladder and try to get promotions.

So I feel like I'm too smart for Hufflepuff, but too lazy for Ravenclaw.

But I'm not brave nor ambitious, so I'd not get put in Slytherin nor Gryffindor.

I guess I'd probably end up in Hufflepuff realistically.

Looked it up and I'm wrong:
Scholastic Corporation bought the U.S. rights at the Bologna Book Fair in April 1997 for US$105,000, an unusually high sum for a children's book.[16] They thought that a child would not want to read a book with the word "philosopher" in the title and,[34] after some discussion, the American edition was published in September 1998[35] under the title Rowling suggested, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.[16]

Ravenclaw is studious, so for nerds.
Slytherin is about ambition and cunning, ends up being the house for assholes.
Gryffindor is about bravery and nobility despite only 2 or 3 Gryffindors actually fitting that.
Hufflepuff is for the fair and hardworking, which ends up meaning anyone not in the other 3 houses.

The houses were so underutilised in the story.
>>
>>334820954
Ravenclaw or Slytherin

I'm only smart in certain areas though, anything outside my comfort zone and I draw blanks.

And i'm ambitious, but not enough to fully satisfy Syltherin levels of ambition.

If the sorting hat takes personal opinion into account, than definitely Ravenclaw.

This game was so much worse than anybody seems to be giving it credit for. Even on the highest difficulty, against any AI opponent, the game was literally

>Get the quaffle on or before the midline, pass it around a bit and score. Maybe use the bludgers to make it less tedious.
>Mix it up a little with the incredibly repetitive cutscene special moves that always guaranteed scoring even if scoring was mindnumbingly easy every time.
>Repeat until the meter fills and the snitch shows up. Win with 400 - 0 every game.
>Do that about 25 times for every team each and you've beaten the game.
>>
>>334823512
Wrote a fucking novel in reply to this explaining the sorting and shit but my phones a faggot.

Basically was saying you can choose your house and kids with wizard parents probably told them this and they went into the sorting knowing what house they wanted to be in. Philosopher's Stone was a game that I borrowed from an old friend of mine that I don't keep contact with anymore. I absolutely recommed Chamber of Secrets, it is a big step up in terms of script, graphics and overall replayability (I didn't find that the Azkaban game had one unless you were trying to grind the levels like I was), and I'm sure that you will enjoy it.

surely getting to level 99 would take >40 hours? Now I'm not sure how in-depth or hard the challenges are, but it still doesn't seem like it would rack up to 100+ hours to 100% complete it.

Or did you just keep on replaying it after completing it fully? Didn't it get dull?
>>
>>334830269
To be fair I completed the 3 albums in the game, and that took a lot
Keep in mind that about half collectible items were accessible only in certain moments of the game
Plus, there were no online guides in my language at that time.

Also yes I autistically kept replaying it

I know this is the same person because the second post is 62 seconds after the first. 60 seconds for the post timer, and then 2 seconds for the post to go through.

Mate, please don't insert social outrage shit into otherwise unrelated threads. I know you enjoy being angry over that sort of thing, but bringing it up unprovoked is just asking for drama.

Everybody on /v/ already knows about the perils of SJW nonsense. Everybody here agree's with you.
When you make a post like this you're not going to find any real dissent — anybody who pretends to disagree with you is just being ironic, satirical or trolling. You won't get any genuine replies.

And even if you're just bating for attention, please remember that you won't get any (you)'s that aren't themselves trying to bait you. Your indulgent back-and-forth trolling is just fake and meaningless. You won't even remember it in 2 days time.

If you want attention and replies then try actually contributing to a thread. The relaxing camaraderie you feel during a pleasant discussion with like minded Anon's is ultimately far more rewarding than the empty, momentary thrill of seeing somebody pretend to be outraged at your post pretending to be outraged.

Fuck me, I'm projecting so hard right now.

Harry Potter is so great, when I was a kid I got obsessed with Hogwarts and my aunt gave me a badass train that opened and had some small rooms and characters, shit was cash

Was it the train that takes you to Hogwarts? That's cozy.

Speaking of 2spooky, I know /v/ is against drugs, but one time I was playing Prisoner of Azkaban for the GBA while high, and Ron's dialogue was in all-caps because Lupin had scared him, and at that time it was so terrifying to read because I legitimately had a thought that lead me to believe that Ron was actually shouting at me, desperately trying to explain that someone was trying to kill him.

I got so scared that I turned off the game immediately and spent the next few minutes feeling a little on edge.

I'd say the whole HP craze started to die down after the first few books. Many of the Sorceror's Stone/Chamber of Secrets games seemed to have a lot of love put into them. Not so much afterwards.
>>
>>334839325
The first 2 games were standalone adaptions of the book, with original soundtracks and little tying them to the films outside of the general aesthetics.

The third game was more closely tied to the movie, but it still carried much of the magic over from the first 2, only with a huge step up in technology.

the series really shit the bed with the 4th game. It was a piece of shit, the worst sort of lazy film tie-in. I didn't even bother finishing it, despite being an autistic obsessed fan at the time.

Sometimes I wonder how the series would have progressed if they continued doing their own thing instead of being cheap exploitative adaptions of the films. We could have gotten some really great games as the technology kept improving, and the tone kept maturing.

I want a game where Argus Filch goes postal for being a non-magical cripple and arms himself with guns, bombs and all kind of commando shit out of frustration against Hogwarts and its bully students laughing and joking about him.

The game goes on years after the last book. You go on a genocide crusade through out the whole castle, teachers being bosses, each on its own area: Sprout on the greenhouse, the centaur teacher on its sky themed class, even Hagrid in the grounds or in the Forbidden Forest.

There is even a cute mascot, Ms Norris! In the end, you discover she influenced your fragile mind against the wizards, her being a Death Eater spy all along still loyal to the late Voldemort. Than you either choose to keep going and kill the last boss, Harry Potter the Head of Ministry, or steal one of these time-turners and go back in time to kill boss Ms Norris. Or both.
