It's a sandbox.
It's not based in the us.
10 years of content to learn
Spreadsheet manager the game.
Full loot pvp.

Not saying any of this is bad, but it is a barrier of entry for brain dead cod,lol,wow,f2p mmo casuals

This guy gets it. It's not a casual mmo, and it has a ridiculously steep learning curve with gameplay some might find boring.
>>
It's not gamey enough.
You can't just drop-in EVE and start playing.
And when you do your whole life get sucked by it.
>>
Eve shitter love spouting 'rollercoaster' while playing spreadsheets in space. Meanwhile everyone in real life has moved on to actual games.

>It's not a casual mmo, and it has a ridiculously steep learning curve
That's just a silly meme EVE faggots like to use to try to lure into their garbage game.
In reality EVE is the single most casual MMO out there, in fact the entire game is based around you being AFK for most of it, from training skills to trading to doing missions. In fact it's so shitty, boring and hands-off most long term players either play on multiple accounts at the same time, because there's nothing really to do on one account, or play other games at the same time while "playing" EVE.
>>
Also subscription.
That's a money wall stopping you from entering.
>>
It's boring as shit, just an accounting simulator in space.
>>
Everything about EVE is awesome except the actual gameplay. If the combat and the flying mechanics were fun it'd be the perfect game.
>>
>>334751518
Except for gating.
>>
>>334750051
i would love eve if it was in medieval/fantasy environment. I do like scifi but in a mmo its a bit too hard swallow for me

Shit's fucking work

EvE is a second life, you have to get into that shit hard or you won't like it. If you aren't the kind of person that actively enjoys the thought of getting a phonecall at 3 AM to go defend your shit, then you're not going to get the most out of it.

Then there's the fact that anything you do in eve takes 5 hours or so. If you have an hour or two, you don't play eve, even Elise Randolph said as much. You go play dota or something, not eve.
>>
>>334750051

It's really simple.

No matter what anyone here says, the reason why a huge amount of people don't play it is because you can never be "the best". You can never finish and get top level.

Only a couple people will ever stand at the top of the EVE world, and even then it's not really an "End game"

You can be the hero of light or whatever in the other games. You can never be The Mitani in EVE.
>>
>>334753179
None of that is accurate.
>>
>>334750680
>ridiculously steep learning curve

not really, you have softwares to know how to mix-max things, you can learn anti-gank protection mesures in a few hours and once you're in a big corp you'll have a lot of advices while being fed with skill books

if you wish to be a top CEO, you'll have to play 24/7, make real relations, work around the market and everything, but if you want to be a responsible officer, you can do it easily, need to be a tad organized, nothing more

>>
>>334754437
one of the best eve players around says there's fuck all to do if you don't have a lot of time to commit to the game and that they should be trying to put more stuff in that you can do just by logging on and going for it.

What can you do in eve with just an hour?

fuck all, you can't organise a roam becuase by the time you've formed up you'll be basically out of time, unless you've already done prep work and live in the right part of eve you can't go solo really (if you are in the right place and have then it's a bit different, but not everyone is sat in FW space with a bunch of set up frigates and dessies)

You could, maybe join a defense fleet and hope things come to you if you live in the right places, but it's not like you're living in catch when brave was there and there were never not hostiles in their staging system so that isn't reliable.
>>
>>334754861
>What can you do in eve with just an hour?
Well, if they removed skill queues, you could do anything. As is, there's so little to do because the game design is poor.

Combat can find a fight in 5 minutes around FW space though.
>>
>>334755014
>I've never played the game!
>>
>>334755014
So as I said, if you happen to be in this one specific place, in the right systems, with your prep work already done, you can maybe do something.

But if you're like "hey I have an hour, lets play some eve" and you don't have that done, you're not gonna be doing much, it's even worse if you live in a WH because you log in and you'll either be doing logistics or scanning.
>>
>>334755209
>
Your argument.
>>
>>334755258
FW space is 5-7 jumps from the main trade hub. There's a market "buy all" window for fittings, and putting them together is a single click. It's repeatable, not some random thing.

Your hour thing is a meme.

>>
>>334757241

Yes, but not by the devs. That is the difference here, and ultimately the key.

Goonswarm is getting it's ass kicked from every direction spherically possible, because the rest of the EVE-verse united under one flag to kick their shit in, after getting sick and tired of Mitani's faggotry.

It's not EA stepping in, it's not Ubisoft stepping in, it's neither Blizzard nor Activision stepping in to "balance" the game or "make things fair again."

EVE is an unfair as fuck world, but amongst all other MMOs to date, it's arguably the world with the most amount of freedom and integrity.

The great war against the goons is sponsored by an enormous gambling\banking in-game association managed by banker-players and people who like money.
They're financing the war because some Goons pissed 'em off.

>>
>>334760248
Nullsec is where the alliance empire wars take place, and its common game curtosy to keep that shit in nullsec unless you're fishing for wardec targets in lowsec (wardec meaning an enemy alliance or corp).

When you start trying to take over lowsec, lowsec, and the people in it, will MAKE SURE your precious nullsec empire is starved of resources by ganking every single freighter or transport that passe through it, since you almost have to go through lowsec to get to nullsec.

In short, you don't fuck with lowsec, or your alliance starts bleeding resources.

Unless you're goons and have literally 50 fucking years worth of every resource in the game stockpiled and can live on it basically forever. Then you do whatever you want.

That't now got Iwantisk got involved.
One of the owners of the site had characters in SMA and a lot of money inside because of how big SMA was so he could collect/pay faster/easier.
SMA leader then stole his shit which was like 100bil so not even a lot for the guy, but then they also starts humiliating him and talking shit on reddit so he just decided to pay people to kill SMA and only SMA.
It was after SMA got its shit pushed in, in record time that he also decided to also pay more people to just end it all and kill goons, then more people pilled on because goons are cancer.

I can make a brand new pilot and head straight away to FW or points in the map with lots of kills/pilots on my T1 frigate and do stuff.

EVE is a very clear example of "its as fun as you are"
If you want to wait for 5 months until you can fly THIS X specific ship for some reason and stay docked up until then, then that's your prerogative.
But its a fact the game has a endless amount of shit to do with your deadtime.

>Arbitrage
Doesn't exist in EVE, you have to truck goods to the station with a price difference; which means exposing a ship to suicide destruction and the possibility of the buy order disappearing. An arbitrage is a simultaneous purchase and sale without risk.

>Trading
If you don't have a freighter, you can't do this in meaningful numbers without exposing an industrial to suicide ganks as soon as the value in your hold exceeds ~50m

>Exploration
On the one hand this is a quick way to get into higher isk making, but it is also higher risk, and for a brand new player to engage in wormhole antics it's basically sending lambs to the slaughter

Why would anyone play EVE but just to fuck with other people?
Seriously, why?
The game is an absolutely fucking HORRIFYING grindfest where to achieve even the smallest shit you are required to sink an ungodly amount of fucking time and real money (subscription) in it.
I mean, the only reason why EVE is still played is because of its userbase, the only thing that keeps people fucking glued to that absolutely disgusting shit is either the extreme drama from all the nullsec corporations or just to fuck up with people, which probably leads everyone into either goonswarm or just lowsec gank groups.
I've played EVE for 4 years, and it didn't get any better.
The sheer amount of autism required to achieve anything valuable in that game is too fucking much, even for newcomers.
And it will only get worse, as the hyperinflation of the already-stale game economy will profit the veteran players but fuck up hard the rookies.
>a PLEX is worth 1,5 billion ISK
And then it's fucking normal to have these maximum plebs asking things like "how do i earn enough isk to play for free".
There are some better games out there that offer the whole space sci-fi bullshit that are even more enjoyable than this enormous psychopath containment game.

You need to be a neet to fully enjoy this game, as pvp is the only long-term enthralling aspect.

PVP doesn't have a designated window for when it'll happen, so you have to have an open schedule for hours at a time to stick with a fleet or scout out areas. Everything else in the game rapidly sours with time. It's also extremely spotty when you will get good fights, as most of the time you will be wandering around looking for people, and then smashing into a force of hugely unequal strength. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone that has any other hobbies or responsibilities as it will rapidly become a second job, but like being on-call all the time.

The biggest issue I have with this game is that it looks like so much fun and I love space drama and territory control and shit, but everytime I play I get past the tutorial and then get told to go to this one part where you don't have the protection of the space police and INSTANTLY get killed and lose my shit right when I jump in.

I don't get how people are supposed to get very far in this game if they're new. To me it's like you have to have some corp sponsor you just to get out of highsec safely.

How do you even go about finding a corp that will take you in and transport you to wherever their home is so you can chill out and mine and just play the game without getting killed.

Is there some sort of 4chan corp or corp for different boards or something I could join and just have a small group of friends to play with that has a little bit of territory and is under another bigger alliance so I could live in my little bubble and not get killed? If so how do I find one.

It's almost like you need to know someone in real life to sponsor you.

Eve University. Look it up.

They have scheduled patrols and activities on the regular. They have free T1 frigate hulls (just don't be a dick and take like, everything) and for larger T1 ships they have an active replacement program if you lost the ship for a good cause.

They're also super helpful and get guests from really well-known coaltions to come and say hi. They DO get war-decc'd like all the time but really, that's a fun learning experience. And if it bothers you, they even have the option for you to leave the corp to carebear and come back when the war is over.

It's pretty much my recommendation for any new EvE player that feels lost.

I'm very interested in the concept but EVE online itself is already damn old. I'll wait for a successor to it so AI don't feel like I'm behind everyone there.

This. PLAY ELITE DANGEROUS. It's better than Eve in my opinion too. You have so many decisions you can take. You can combat, trade or explore. Pic related is an Earth-like I found while going to Sag A*
>>
>>334762615
I subbed 2 weeks ago. spent my first week trading and bought 6 skill injectors to speed up pvp fits. I'm now ganking brave ratters in null using t2 frigs (bombers) and having a lot of fun.

Game is pretty sweet, don't know why people are so shit
>>
>>334765016
If Battlescape makes enough money we might someday see Infinity: The Quest for Earth get made. It would be the ultimate space sandbox, but I honestly don't see it happening.

>I'm behind everyone there

i really dont get this kind of thinking

would you stop working to make money, because there are billionaires out there who have more than you, and youll never catch up to them?

would you not play an fps because some people have learned all the maps and have better reflexes than you?

i find it strange, just play it to have fun

there was one guy who within a month or so of starting EVE had one of the biggest corps in the game, brave newbies, he was behind everyone, and now he's an eve legend
>>
holy shit eve getting BTFO

I thought it was average at best but damn some people have a huge hate boner for it. Why not just forget it exists rather than get all salty about it?

i feel like I would enjoy eve if it had actual sinks, but it's just too basic on the surface, if using ships above a certain tech level, like those that require starship command 4 or higher, required fuel I would like it more, i know most people wouldn't but it just made the game boring without sinks for your cash, at a certain point it is just making obscene amounts of money for no reason

how is losing ships not the biggest fucking actual sink there is?

its not just on 4chan that eve gets this kind of reception, its everywhere, review sites, steam, youtube, you name it

the reason is because these plebs try the game out, die in a fire, then cry and uninstall instead of learning from their mistakes and carrying on

the average gamer today is an ADHD-addled faggot with no patience and a severe dose of butthurt
>>
EVE is fucking awesome but very overwhelming for a new player, especially someone new without vets to lend a hand.
It also can be really boring like others have said.
The politics in it are unmatched by nearly any game tho.
One thing to be noted is that they've had a steady decline in subs for quite awhile now, they are at the lowest they've been in some time.
I believe with the current war lots of corps are recruiting new players and offering them shit as they need manpower, so now is a decent time to get in if someone was so inclined.
>>
>>334767376

Yikes, that was a failure, eh?
>>
>>334767204
It's called not being shit. You go complain in new player chat about how hard everything is and someone will drop you 20mil sooner or later.

Then it's just the standard market game in jita which is a fucking walk in the park to make a lot of money quickly. You literally have to be brain dead to not be able to plex accounts station trading on an alt.

I've been playing now for a little over 2 weeks and I can afford multiple alt accounts from understanding how markets work.
>>
>>334767454
Emptying you shit capacitor in a cristal till it's shine is not as advanced as a explosive payload rocketting across space calculating trajectory and speed hundreds of times a second.

Then again, it's well known that Amarrfucks are about as learned as the average irish catholic.

For most of the market, playing an MMO is about having full access to a line of professions and combat options. EVE claims to be the game with the most depth to the profession segment but does absolutely everything to disallow the player from engaging with it. That includes placing 10y of skill queues between nothing and mastery. That's not only a huge deterrant, it's fucking ludicrous. Sure, having all skills would be unnecessary to specialize.. or whatever other excuse makes it seem as if gating the only feature your game has (the sandbox) is OK; and it's even worse because all of that can be surpassed with real money.. but the idea that the game has absolutely no mechanic in place to prevent progression is pure tripe. There's nothing to do with all of the money in the game if it's locked through SP.

Inb4 "muh first day Titan". It's just an example. Everything is like this. The game has 20y of skill queues overall.
>>
>>334767881
you realize that 90% of the core skills are beneficial to 100% of the ships right?

a titan is not the endgame
