There's a guy that wins all of our locals by knowing the frame data on all the moves in the game, thus knowing exactly when he can dp to punish everything he blocks. It's autistic as fuck but I gotta hand it to him, he knows what he's doing.

Birdie plays by zoning people out and punishing their buttons and jump-ins, but if the other guy gets in, then Birdie is done. I mean he could do a wake-up bullcharge, but it only gains armor after 3 frames so it is pretty fraudulent.

Yes, they are. Especially considering Ultra. Unblockables were rough but they weren't discovered until AE and they don't happen off just anything. They were aspects of certain characters, namely Cammy. Hitbox tweaks in 2012 toned them down, as was then done in Ultra.
Vortexes could be blocked as well. Akuma's was entirely based on left/right and were just to quick to see. Delayed wakeup axed that in Ultra.
In V, you get knocked down and you hold your opponent's shit because V doesn't have an iota of IV's defensive options. There's also still goofy setplay like Laura's post EX fireball reset, but most of them are tied to a resource.
Overstated. In fact, they aren't so different. 4 was just more diverse and had shit like overheads you could combo off of and Decapre. The most used tool by Daigo's ERyu and Momo's Ken on oki was a delayed cr strong. Delayed so a reversal wouldn't hit them, but the timing would counterhit tech/cr tech.

You can literally just punish everything with a DP, jump over fireballs and you'll leave bronze in no time.

There's a lot you can learn from frame data. Sure, you could feel all of it out but knowing your data eliminates that process and gives him a leg up. With that knowledge there isn't guessing, so that means you can just focus on recognizing the patterns your opponents do.

Not many but the complaint is usually about the prevalence of 50/50s and the ease of setting them up.
SFIV was annoying because some characters could setup completely ambiguous setups off one sweep or throw which would then loop back into itself.
This was *somewhat* mitigated with the inclusion of delayed wakeup and invincible backdashes but it's still a thing.
