what bothers me is that there aren't games similar to it still being made
>>
>>334667871
I only played one and I don't know which i had.

One of the first games on PC I ever played to finish. And i didn't even like the character design at first but I was intrigued by the gameplay and damn I played that bitch.
>>
I had a blast playing these as a kid.
I never finished 1, but I spend countless hours in 2.
>>
I don't remember it well since I was very young, but I remember being fairly confused as to what to do.

Was a lotta fun breaking out of prison though, and IIRC you could bully people in town until they got mad at you

Sometimes I hum the LBA2 songs to myself when I'm trying to sleep but I can't, it always works.

I love this game this much.

Whatever happened to the creator anyway? I think he was working on a horror game, it got kickstarted in France or something.

Frederick Raynal is creating a new horror game, top down called 2Dark, along with some former LBA team people, they also worked with dotEmu to port LBA1 and 2 to mobile recently

Oh so it wasn't released yet? I thought it had flopped completely as I didn't hear anything about it for quite some time.

I'll get it for XBONE when it comes out. Hope he makes enough money to actually start making LBA3 since he's already got the story done for quite some time now..

nah, it was on crowdfunding on some french crowdfunding website and it got enough support

Some people have suggested him to use crowdfunding for LBA3 but he said he would prefer to work with a publisher. I guess for a game with the scope of LBA he would need a lot of money, a big 3D world, a lot of voice acting and stuff
>>
Whatever happened to that one guy who was remaking LBA1?
>>
>>334674714
Fan made remake? There was a talk they were remaking LBA1, but it turned out to be a mobile port. I think this port also got a steam version. It has some features like zooming and they remove the damage when running into walls from it

I feel the same anon, I really loved all those weird races LBA games had, the 2 planets and the moon from LBA2 really feel different from each other, which makes exploration and the world just pretty damn fun to look around.

I think Beyond Good & evil scratched that itch a little, but then that also got buried for not selling well. I would be okay with a LBA clone from anyone, because I don't see any games going for what it had

Yeah, I had LBA and LBA2, only finished LBA2 using a guide. Nice game, it's one of those cult games like Grim Fandango that only few enjoy, the controls were god awful though. You had to switch between stances in order to walk, run, fight, go slow, etc. Which was fucking tedious.
>>
>>334681768
you could use F keys to quickly switch between stances F4 is normal, F5 is sporty, and so on
>>
How long did it take you to find the missing key fragment hidden by that riddler tier faggot priest?
>>
>>334681742
Eventually I got the hang of it, but aiming in isometric perspective is not so good.
>>
>>334682107
the one that you must dig out? I don't remember if I eventually looked for a guide or something
>>
>>334682107
the one you had to dig up next to the palm tree? i quit the game because i couldn't find it and at the time there were no walktrhoughs around (1999 if i'm correct) and couldn't get back to it because i scratched the cd. found a working one on a flea market in 2003 and finished it.
>>
>>334681768
Also the physics are lacking, Twinsen feels unresponsive most of the time, or like trying to guide a giant ball around by kicking it. He has that lag to walking, kinda like Alone in The Dark which is really interesting since they were both made by French companies, so it must be Voltaire. But enough with shitting on it, it's a good game overall, underrated.

I think the reason why LBA could never be brought back is because it is truly a thing from its time and renovate/improve it in any other way leaves it in a path without victory:

As charming as it was back then, the idea of having to switch modes for every action is incredibly outdate by today's standarts.

However, if you try to improve of streamline them, then it loses the charm of the original, making you wonder why even use the IP (My issue with the Fear Effect return).

What do you guys think?
>>
>>334682291
Alone in the Dark was made by LBA1/2 developers
>>
Played 2 when I was little. Real little, I think "dog" was like half my English vocabulary.

I think I made it to the moon. Please tell me there's a moon level. Also remember some volcano looking place being a total bitch.
>>
>>334675082
Kek, i still remember trying to draw maps and shit with my bro when we tried to do this part
>>
Great webms thanks anon

Loved LBA2 as a kid, it was huge and unintelligible in an age before walkthroughs.
>>
>>334682412

The emerald moon, yes.

Volcano was probably the undergas zone.
>>
>>334682337
They could make a game today without the behavior system, a run button, a sneak button, a melee attacks button, and manual aim of the ball in a full 3D world. Also allow people to lob the ball like you could using discreet mode magic ball throw
>>
>>334682337
I in no way believe that the charm of LBA is tied to its clunky control system. As a designer however, I'd rather look at the clunky system a potential for untapped design. I mean, the game isn't especially fast-paced, so having to switch between four control modes in menu, affords you to take your time, and perhaps more complex systems could be tied to it all.

Old action adventure games.

Some people compare it to Zelda, but I disagree, it's more of an exploration kind of game, way more focus on world building, and NPCs are more interesting than in any Zelda game, which has more of a focus on combat/puzzles.

it's just a crazy journey
