FF series is terrible for fucking up its own storylines with other media. They did the same thing with FFX and X-2. The made a book and an audio book thing that fucked up major plot lines and character arcs completely, so FF7 isnt alone in that

The original scene had them waking up and coming out of the chocobo room, so it was pretty obvious (if your affection was high).
