>"8-bit" game
>clearly looks like a 16-bit era game
So, what triggers YOU, anon?
only SJWs get triggered, anon.
>8 bit graphics
>Looks like 2 bit hack graphics
8 bit actually could look damn good.

when i see casuals holding a controller and their fingers arent resting on the triggers
>>334645718
Pixel art with multiple scales. This normally happens with gameplay sprites having smaller blocks than the background assets.
>>334648765
Your post just made me angry. That inconsistency pisses me off to no end.
When someone addresses me as "anon" like they know me and we're friends or something.
>>334649072
Me too, anon
>>334645718
When an indie game has 'retro 8-bit graphics' and it looks like an Atari 2600 fucked a NES with no actual effort to look like a game from either era.

Can someone post an example? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.
>>334645718
Chromatic aberration, film grain, lens scratches and modern lens flares (Except when the scene is literally from a camera and it's warranted).
>inspired by retro games
When what a character is becomes more important than who a character is. Case in point, Dragon Age Inquisition and how everybody in it was written sexuality-first. Nobody could just be a character. They had to be the gay character or the bi character and so on.
>>334649619
This bugs the hell out of me, and I'm not even a Melee faggot.
Also,
>Awkuhreena of Time
>>334649901
Took me forever to remember this game's name. Biggest issue comes from having sprites from some kind of resource pack intended for sidescrollers mapped onto actors in a 3D space. Then there are the textures, which are probably from a different resource pack. Overall just not a good looking game by any means
>>334650467
This. It's blatant tokenism and reduces characters to cardboard cutouts, yet people eat it up.
what triggers me is when hipster devs call their games retro when they look worse than NES games

ding dong
you're an idiot
>>334650535
I mean fucking hell, Doom had proper sprite rotations for actors, the only sprites with billboarding were props
Also, Crawl seems like it'd be fun but it looks so bad
>"8-bit"

>>334650535
Christ, just looking at it is a headache waiting to happen. Can't imagine actually seeing it motion.
>>334650724
I'll stick with the way it's actually pronounced.
>>334650847
Good pixel art is hard as fuck to make, but the artform itself is getting a bad name from incompetent idie devs. It's sad.

You're joking right?
That's the way it's pronounced. That's the way developers pronounce it, and anyone who grew past the age of 13 pronounces it if they're not retarded.
>>334650847
>the cherrypicking in that image
Very few NES games looked as good as Little Samson. I'm not saying the look on the left is good, or that only a few indie games look like that, but that's just an unfair comparison.
So what do you consider good modern pixel art?
>>334651191
using NES games is being generous, if the image used Master System games the disparity would be even worse
>>334650724

Do Merriam-Webster purposefully pick the people with the thickest accents to do their recordings?
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/ocarina?s=t This is much more accurate.

>>334652367
What was the name of that one Dark Souls clone? Took place entirely in a castle, if I remember correctly.
>>334645718
There are people IN THIS WORLD
RIGHT NOW
that use "8-bit" and "pixel art" as synonyms
how does that make you feel?
>indie game has permadeath
>IT'S A ROGUELIKE
Fuck you.
>>334652609
Would all 8-bit fall under pixel art? Kind of like all scotch is whisky, but not all whiskey is scotch.
>>334652609
>>334652747
yes, exactly
>>334652665
Rougelikes always have permadeath, or at least they should.

>>334652665

I remember now, it's Lords of the Fallen.
>>334651087
and here we see an anon who took the bait.
>>334652839
Yeah, but not every game with permadeath is a roguelike.
>>334645718
When they drag out a boss fight or a section of a game way longer than it needs to be for the sake of "game length"
>>334652747
Not entirely. 8-bit just means that the color palette is limited to 8-bits. So for example you could take a picture and then limit the palette. In practice, 8-bit is usually used to refer to intentionally limiting your usage of color when making sprites to emulate the technical limitations of older hardware, and is usually only used when talking about pixel art. The thing to keep in mind is that pixel art means the artist builds the image pixel by pixel, versus using something like a pen tool.
>>334653321
Oh, I see now what that post meant. The developer brushes off the inclusion of permadeath by claiming the game is a rougelike.
>>334653410
Isn't it more like, the artist draws a sketch on paper and then gives that to the programmer to convert to pixels, at least in the old days?
>>334650847
the palette is everything
>>334653732
I think nowadays they also make 3D models and convert them to pixels.
