OP. I'm looking forward to this game.
It sounds like the 64 sequel I wanted.
Why do people hate short games these days? Sometimes it's nice having a game you can jump into, play for a few hours, and then leave it for a while.

Star Fox 64 is a game you can ALWAYS replay and get back into and hopefully this game is too.

I'd rather have a condensed experience, than a 50 hour 'epic' padded with collecathons and repetitive quest structure
>>
>>334606805
The ground sections in Zero aren't like the Assault sections (I think). I believe you are still relatively on rails/guided as opposed to 3rd person wandering around an environment while looking at a mini map.

As for the controls, we'll see. I don't recall the controls in Command being much of an issue personally but I know people always complain about them.

This. So much fucking this. Starfox 64 was a magnificent because, because if you're bored but don't feel like getting into a whole massive game, you can pop it in and run through in like 30 minutes. I appreciate the hell out of having fun, bursty games like this. The last thing I want is a StarFox Adventures-like scenario.

The negatives reviews are going to slam the game for being "dated". That's the big whine I've heard from people and journalists so far, that the game is too derivative of 64, too anchored in 90s game design, and not visually impressive enough. Insubstantial complains in my opinion.
>>
>>334609627
not him but based on the history of Starfox snes and Starfox 64 which were on rail shooters for the most part. and since Shigeru is actually involved with this and wanted to keep it similar to the first 2 games but adding the pad thingy.

and we have seen some gameplay videos and it look to play similar to the first 2 games as well. so it seems to be good.
>>
Starfox has always been a garbage series, 64 being okay at best. All the other games are trash including that deviantsrt tier game command
>>
>>334608202
This is the thing with modern games.
People don't always finish them BECAUSE they usually hit a wall of fatigue and move on.
When I played Saints Row 4, as an example, I enjoyed the game. The gameplay, the story, but what made me stop? All the fucking side quests and all this shit to collect to 100% it.
It can be a bit addicting but it causes a lot of burn-out. You have to play for ages to get to a sort of stop point. You have to have a free evening to put by if you want to make big progress.
Eventually I moved onto another game, but if I go back to this game I will be tempted to restart it.
Why is that? Because it's a game you kind of have to 'catch up' with to get back into. Whether it's mechanics, story, map layout.

But when I fire up Star Fox 64, I can just play it. It's all self-contained and simple. There's enough challenge in there to test your skill and improve but it's not too imposing to cause frustration and put you off, (like say Panzer Dragoon Orta can do).

I can finish a run and feel satisfied. I can always do a different route each time I play. Sometimes I'll save Slippy but go resuce him anyway because I fancy playing that level in my run.
You can get to Venom 2 in multiple ways. That's what makes the game so replayable and accessible. Even if you fuck up, you can always try and get the best score for a medal. You can get to a level to practice it quite quickly.

Modern games don't really have this. You have to sit through a bunch of cutscenes or redo a hundred side quests to respec and shit.

I miss this. Games that just get you to the meat of it. I don't need explanation, it should be obvious. Especially if I've done it before. Not everything needs to be super cryptic or obtuse.

>slam the game for being 'dated'

I hate people who mark things negative for being old or having tried and tested methodology. Sometimes 'dated' is good. There is a lot of 'dated' concepts that can still work just fine in 2016.
Calling something 'dated' doesn't mean anything. Sure, there are things in old games that can be a bit obtuse or awkward, but because a game has, for example, Resident Evil tank controls, or a diablo-style inventory, doesn't mean it's dated. Maybe it works well for that game. Hell, maybe the game was specifically designed around it. If it ACTUALLY hinders the gameplay experience, then yes, that's bad, but if it doesn't then it's a matter of taste over a criticism.

I'll admit. I am really forgiving of a game's 'flaws'. I like to give a game a fair chance to impress.
Sometimes I wonder if this is because I grew up with old 2D and early 3D games.

Checkpoints/warping streamlines games but in a way it kind of makes games worse because designers get lazy with it. With the idea they know a player isn't going to backtrack across the map to get to the next sidequest, so they get lazy with environment landmarks and layout. They make a lot of games 'flat' so people can get around as fast as possible. They don't bother to add in hidden details.

The best way old games did it, was with secret warps/alternate paths that gave a little reward with the challenge, but also ensuring backtracking was kept to a few sections. (Because everyone can agree a lot of backtracking sucks. And it's a genuine criticism old games get)
All it takes is a hint in the manual or a off-hand NPC mention, or even a background/enemy hint.

Mario Bros did this well with warps and secret exits. You tried something a bit different in a level, and it rewarded you with a way to skip to a later/alternate level.

Nowadays a lot of developers have this big ego where they want everyone to experience everything. They have a 'no man left behind' policy. They have to rub the fruit of their loins all in your face so a lot of cool sublety is lost.
So what if not everyone gets to see a secret alcove on the left side of the level? Maybe you should be happy that the few that do finds it pretty neat, and they'll share it with their friends.
Who gives a shit of someone is going to make a YouTube video 'spoiling' it all? That's just the way things are now. You should do it anyway because there's always going to be someone out there experiencing this game blind.

Depends on the stage and the route you take in it.

For instance, getting 150 on Corneria involves flying through buildings to trigger a group of flying enemies that wouldn't spawn otherwise.

Another instance is in Aquas, where you can whore out torpedos in specific spots to get bonus points for free. Same thing with charge shots near these stationary types of enemies in Titania.

I DO have a CPP. It's still awkward.
The CPP makes the 3DS heavy to hold with the angle you need to use the right stick whilst holding the stylus in the left hand to use on the screen, and without it I have to make my right hand an awkward claw with a stylus in it which makes the harder difficulties almost impossible since my hand can't quite keep up with the pace the harder difficulty needs, since exerting too much force to maintain some sort of finer motor control cramps my hand up.
(I'm not ambidextrous in the least)

Monster Hunter uses the CPP properly. Kid Icarus just plain doesnt. It's a victim of being out before 3DS game patches were a thing and CPP was actually out. Unfortunate really but if they did an updated release like Ace Combat did people would have a fucking riot.

Charged shots yo.

Also know where to use bombs. For example:
>space mines in Area 6
>both warp areas
>Those weird twirly missiles in sector Y

If you really want to step it up use manual charged shots to get extra points. On the N64 you hold R and Z to prevent locking onto anything.

But really best thing to do is watch a video or two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV-ed_ecy_4

It's more like something you're required to say since any negative opinions on a Nintendo game mean you don't have Nintendo hardware and you're a Sony fanboy

I'm glad I didn't play SF64 or the first 2 snes games, given that this is just a remake.

Hopefully the next starfox though isn't a remake AGAIN. I want something fun like dino, or a prequel with James McCloud.

That's opinion at that point, I'm just pointing out why it's hated. People wanted an arcade shooter and it's not what they were given. Same reason I hate Kirby's Epic Yarn.

jesus christ the amount of trustworthy leaks all point to it being a console, not to mention that the 3DS still has a solid first-party library for the rest of the year. No need to split the fanbase.

Not to mention reggie and iwata both said the NX was a console.

reimagining =/= remake

A remake is a point-for-point rebuild of the original game down to level design, story, characters, paths, and otherwise.

A reimagining basically means "THE CANON IS DEAD, WE'RE REBUILDING FROM THE START"

even the spin-off kirby games still have copy abilities. This is the first time it was literally not a kirby game from the ground-up. Kirby's face was just slapped on for marketing. The copy-powers were never even part of the development.

I just want to point out I called that out as fake from the start.

Anyways, even if you don't go off of leaks, both Iwata and Reggie referred to it as a home console, and you're insane if you think the Wii U has lasting power for another year. There's next to no third-party games and the game library to dig into has dried up.

Go try it, anon. 190 hits is bullshit on Corneria. Your charge shots all have to be perfect, and you more or less can't miss a single enemy or cluster of enemies.
>>
>>334606076
I've played a review copy. The controls are shit at times. Tipping the gamepad down to shoot at the top of a ship while you fly over feels odd. You shouldn't have to be looking back and forth at both screens constantly during boss fights but that's the way they designed it.

It creates a total disconnect from the experience.

Yeah except for Pikmin 4, Star Fox, #FE, Paper Mario Kino Splash, and a little game called Zelda, you know not a remake of Link to the Past or the N64 games but a real Zelda on a console. Not to mention all the upcoming surprises at E3.

We don't even know if Pikmin 4 is going to be on Wii U. Plus, there are rumors of Zelda U being a dual release for NX as well.

A game that's going to bomb harder here than it did in Japan. Amazed they're even going for a physical release.

Look, I'm a nintendo faggot, but the Wii U has a shit-tier lineup. This is 4 games FOR THE ENTIREITY OF THE YEAR. The only other even remotely worthwhile release this year was TPHD. That's a total of 5 games for the year. I even forgot to mention Federation Force for the 3DS.

>>
>>334617658
Not even a rumor, just a prediction.

Launch-title Zelda is a moneymaker and Nintendo would be even more retarded than they usually are not to make it cross-gen. Pikmin, simply due to it not being announced yet but confirmed to be in development is another good launch title. It would definitely sell more on the NX than the Wii U.
>>
>>334617309
>Guarantee you it's an NX title

Miyamoto already confirmed it's a Wii U title.

>A game that's going to bomb harder here than it did in Japan. Amazed they're even going for a physical release.

Xenoblade bombed and it turned out to be GOTY. Bombing has nothing to do with the quality.

>I think you mean Sticker Star 2

Sticker Star was only bad because the 3DS held it back.

>A game that was announced 2 years ago
I don't see how this is a criticism.

And the definitive version will be on Wii U just like TP on the GC. Rushing a game to be on another console never works out.
