Online play is a given, R* wants to be able to pull the plug. Still, why the lack of story? After all, it's one of the main pulling points of GTA. It's not exactly stellar gameplay, and sandboxes grow old eventually. That's why they've been increasing the production value of the story all the time, with more, longer and more elaborate cutscenes and stuff
