I'm sort of in a similar process now. I'm trying to get my PS3 controller working with Dark Souls 3. I installed the continuation fork of SCP Xinput Wrapper, and the best I can get the thing to do is vibrate constantly. I know the controller is being read, but, literally nothing is responding. The only buttons that are read in game on my keyboard are escape when it boots up. It's just getting kind of ridiculous at this point.

Just download DS4Windows and have it launch on startup. Whenever I want to use my DS4 on my PC I literally just pick up the controller and turn it on, as simple as if I were playing on the PS4 itself .
Also if you're on Windows 10 make sure to update, the early builds had completely broken Bluetooth

If anyone else is having an issue, what worked was booting up the SCP monitor and moving the controller you're currently trying to use to the first slot. For some reason it had swapped with my other DS3 controller, which is plugged into my PS3 at the moment.
After that put in the 32 bit xinput wrapper and it should start reading it properly.
