I long ago realized that I'm too autismal about this shit and I just try to find a balance. I use whatever armor I don't hate the design of that has decent enough stats. Or if I'm playing something like splatoon I just straight up don't even worry about stats and prioritize looks.
Even though I never got really into spiral knights I think it did it the best. You could have one set of armor for looks and another for stats.

Not really. The suit design for ALL the forms after the first were really stupid looking.
Gaim was pretty consistent about the suit looks I can at least give it that much.

You can overcome bad stats by getting gud, and many games offer Augments for armors and weapons to make them better if they fall off later in the game
