You posted it

Now watch all the hipsters say how penumbra is better and all the contrarians say how it's just youtube bait

penumbra is good, but w/e

Amnesia was fucking awesome except for the shitty puzzles
>>

Amnesia is alright, but my personal favorite is Eternal Darkness

I love both SH2 and 3, but I always thought SH4 was the spookiest out of the series.
>>
>>334492325
SH4 is underrated. It has some horrible design decisions but nothing game breaking like people imply.

call of cthulu is a shit horror game though, nothing about it is scary or horrifying. it's a cool game, however

Amnesia is carnival haunted house tier. Ooooh a spooky ghost died in this room ooo

I liked SOMA more, Amnesia felt scarier though.

Amnesia and alien isolation

SOMA caught me off guard.

Wasn't expecting it to be that good

The one you posted and Alien: Isolation
>>
What's the best way to play SH4? Is there a fix for the 15fps cutscenes on PC?
>>
>>334493103
Alien Isolation was pretty good. But once you get good at it, the Alien is just a fucking annoyance instead of creepy
>>
>>334493103
I fucking hated isolation since you would instantly die if you made a mistake, unlike in other games where you have the opportunity to run away

Cry of Fear.
Play this and you wont find other horror games scary ever again.

Bullshit for sure. If the alien sees you, it's game over unless you have a flamethrower or molotov

Are there any good horror shooters similar to COF?

there's Afraid of Monsters which is made by the same creators but I don't think its as scary and the graphics are unbearable.

Can anyone explain this game to me?
I just beat it and I have pretty much no idea what happened. I thought the ending would make atleast some of the plot clearer, but it just made it more confusing instead.

What was the dog?
Who made all the robots/giants?
What do the runes even do after you find them and what's up with the bird that appears whenever you do?
What does the heart under the city have to do with the main character's disease?
>>
>>334490882
I have an extra key for Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, if someone wants it

Also The Walking Dead , and some non-horror games like Dustforce, Risk of Rain, The Novelist, Cave Story+, Thomas Was Alone, Super Hexagon...

Is Machine for Pigs any good? I never really heard anything about it after it was released.
>>
>>334495161
You know the feeling you get when you complete a survival game and you're all like "Holy shit I can't believe I made it through all that and survived!"
Yeah you don't get that in a machine for pigs because you're never in any danger.

Like, ever

i played through it 3 times just to see if i missed something. nope. story might've been good if it wasnt so pretentious, the dark descent did it perfectly

Well, that's a shame. Not really surprised, though.
>>
>>334495431
It is a shame, they've made these fantastic games before and suddenly they just want to go "cinematic" or some shit together with chinese house or whatever those fuckers are called.
Haven't played SOMA yet, going to wait a bit. God I hope the story is atelast decent in SOMA, fuck AMFP
>>
>>334495161

It's a solid game. I think it's underappreciated. But if you don't have some familiarity with the historical period the game isn't going to make a lot of sense.
>>
>>334492325
>>334492397
Does 4 also have some explanation for the monsters and how they reflect the mind of bla bla bla?

>Cry of Fear
Shit, I though not many people know about this game. I really wish there were more horror games like this. What I hate about most horror games these days is that they either shift to one extreme or the other:

>Pure action, brainlessly mowing down hoards of enemies
or
>Exploration, where you just walk around for hours and look at shit

Cry of Fear perfectly blends the exploration and combat, the atmosphere in the game was top notch and the scares aren't exactly cheap pop ups that happen every 10 seconds. Really cool bosses. One of the best games I've played in years.

What's are your favorite moments, guys?

>First encounter the blood chain locked door
>After hours of gameplay finally open it
>Music turns silent
>Nope.jpg
>Enter hallway
>Whole apartment is doused in blood
>Enter kitchen
>Find hole with ladders
>Climb down
>Total darkness
>Suddenly creepy as fuck music starts blasting
>Huge head from the beginning of the game has a seizure while hissing
>Gates open with the spider human fuckers coming for you
>>
Outlast

I'm not joking.
>>
>>334497515
Outlast is pretty good. I'm somewhat disappointed that there isn't any combat, but it's not really an issue. There's a second game coming out if I'm not mistaken.

Not exactly relevant to the thread, but I just noticed that Everbody's gone to Rapture released on PC a few days ago. I thought this game was a proper PS4 exclusive? I must've missed the threads when this game came out, I do remember the PS4 wembs floating around.
>>
>>334497927
>I thought this game was a proper PS4 exclusive?
I thought so too, I guess they decided to make it for the PC as well, maybe they though it wouldn't sell as well on the PS4 because it isn't an action game?

Anyway, itns't the game supposed to be like Dear Esther?

Amnesia and Walking Dead are gone

Fucking this
>>
>>334495982

The huge maze with the upside down worm head guys fucked me up, I beat it without knowing there was maps on the walls
>>
>>334490882
Bloodborne was the scariest game Ive played since Silent hill 2

The enemies were intimidating and grotesque and all that shit about gouging your eyes out freaked me out

not to mention those fucking giant pigs and the upper cathedral ward

But I seem to be the only person who actually was scared shitless by it
>>
Definitely not Amnesia, unless you think being bored is horrifying.
>>
>>334499215
>The huge maze with the upside down worm head guys
That was fucking insane. There were no landmark for you to know where you currently land, all the flesh walls looked the same. The maps were somewhat of a help.

Do you even play horror games?
>>
>>334495982
>the scares aren't exactly cheap pop ups that happen every 10 seconds.
The fuck am I reading. That is exactly what Cry of Fear is, the majority of the enemies have a fucking screamer every time they appear. It's a shame because the game has moments of absolute genius like the suicide ghosts, the woods sequence with the lantern, especially the encounter with the chainsaw man in the woods but then I'm constantly reminded that this game was designed by an autistic 13 year old boy who thinks jump scares are genius.
>>
>>334490882
cry of fear is pretty good, and it's free
>>
>>334499587
There are jumpscares, but at least they are spread out and don't happen that often in succession. Yes there are those little garbage kids that jump at you, or that screaming stilts woman etc.

The thing is that jumpscare are either a hit or miss, some people like them, some people hate them. Personally, I really like jumpscares because they give that "rush" when you are surprised. Some people find the tension too much and kills their experience, but I really like the feeling when you play the game on super hard, have a few bullets left and god knows what's behind the next corner.

That's the reason I liked the first Dead Space, every bullet matters when you play on highest difficulty.
>>
>>334499306
If I had a PS4, I'd probably hesitate to play it because of how much pictures and videos I've seen have spooked me.
>>
>>334499984
>The thing is that jumpscare are either a hit or miss, some people like them, some people hate them.
No, most of people hate them, then one or two people on the planet like them.
>>
>>334500046
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XURRo47tU4E

scariest vidya moment in years for me

when I played it got halfway into the tunnel before realising
>>
>>334500184
>most of people hate them
But why though? A lot of people say they are cheap. If a game has only jumpscares as the main shtick, then I would understand, but games like CoF have good horror concepts and atmosphere and jumpsacres as well.
>>
>>334500720
Because they're unnecessary. All it does is make you go oh fuck and that's it. That's the extent of the intelligence or ingenuity behind a jump scare. One or two scares in the entire game would be fine, if they were done right like the head impalement scene in Exorcist 3, but Cry of Fear abuses them to a ridiculous extent.
