It's soul level primarily. Upgrades do count but you can bypass it by putting upgraded items in the bonfire storage box.
I can't invade with a +7 weapon in the chapel but I can with a +3.
So it's still possible to Twink slightly, since you can get later game rings, spells, pyromancies and sorceries. I don't think the matchmaking takes those into account, only the upgrade level of all gear.

Because people read about the uchi you can get literally at the start and rush for it. It's like the new Drake Sword because it's a great PvE started weapon.
However it eats stamina like a bitch, it's weapon art has a massive tell and it's considerably slower than normal swords.
Smart PvPers will keep a distance and play cautiously and know when to use their slash and utilise the thrust poke well. Most people though are retards and use up all their stamina, get too close and are easy to dodge, thus allowing you to get in and get tons of hits off.

I almost never get invaded. Been embered 100% of time. I have never been summed as a blue sentinal and have had it equipped for hours on end. Same with watchdogs of farron. Have 30+ hours in the game, not summoned once for either.

No because theres a thing called an invasion timer. You can only get invaded so often unless you end it sooner yourself. Invaders need a way to heal so its not pointless. Thats why they settled on invaders get half their max in estus.
The same can be said about the person being invaded. So many of my invasions were drawn out ridiculously because the faggot just runs in circles around a pillar chugging his estus. The fight was over long ago but because the host gets full estus the can draw it out for fucking ever.
I just had this 20 minute fist fight with an invader and I'm pumped up with so much adrenaline right now.
My current favorite thing to do is to invade someone as a Watchdog and put on a ring that masks myself as a phantom. Once I gain everybody's trust I go for the back stab.

I honestly have no mercy for invaders. If they get you right before you actively start going through the area it doesn't matter wether you're alone or have 4 phantoms helping you. They'll just run towards the nearest mob pack and spam emotes. This becomes more and more of an issue as the game puts down lots of spellcasters with very long and powerful spells.
I played through DS1/2 and now three with a mate of mine. Back in DS1/2 invaders would generally be more aggresive and not rely on mobs. We'd generally always let them have their 1v1 shot against us.
Nowadays invaders are nothing but annoying leeches with nothing to lose who at worst slow down area progression to a crawl or hug really powerful mob packs thinking they have leet skills.
TLDR : I've played every souls game and I have never seen invaders be as cancerous as they have been this game. They have plenty of advantages and nearly nothing to lose if they fail an invasion. I could accept it if they wern't also complaining about how unfair the system supposedly is towards red phantoms while doing nothing even they do nothing but shit on the experience for players they're invading.

So. Here's the thing. I've mostly just done my own thing and never really cared one bit about min/maxing on my characters, but DS3 is the first game that I've ended up doing the majority of my playthrough with my IRL friends. And they've been commenting on my lack of damage. I'm not really that good, and I'm not really comfortable playing without a shield. They run around with ultra greatswords doing tons of damage and I'm using a broadsword. So, recently, I re-specced and made my broadsword a refined broadsword, boosted my faith to 30 and now have my DEX.STR around 30ish. I do about 380 damage base and I got my attunement to 24. I want to get it to a bit higher for 5 spells slots but right now I have deep protection, that...level 28 attack buff, and the lightning buff. With all that stacking my +10 refined broadsword almost hits 600 damage. I could probably get it a bit higher with rings, but I'm using the ring that buffs my HP, Stamina, and carry weight, the lingering dragoncrest ring, and the cloranthy ring with the forth slot for whatever.
So, with all that said, is 600 damage for a broadsword good? I use a shield that lets me use sword arts instead of parrying because to be frank, I suck ass at parrying and my sword stun-locks anything without a shield, and if they have a shield I just kick them.
The pic isn't the shield I'm using now. I'm using a round metal shield. I also have the knights crossbow and I wonder if i should replace my broad sword with the sunlight sword to go with my quality build or if I should get the dual-wield version of the straightswords.

Hosts get 1.3x hp, double estus, phantoms. It's just an R1 spamfest where weapons do no damage and everyone has 1000 HP before level 50.

I think that because most people are summoning help and people with help summoned are prioritized to be invaded makes it less likely that you'll be invaded solo, if everyone starts running around solo like me in ember mode then it will become more likely to get invaded running around solo.

At least half of those were 1v1 so no excuse for those.
Just like it took a while to get used to the faster pace of DS3 compared to 2, it took a while to get used to the netcode and the true ranges for weapons in multiplayer.

I've been trying to avoid these threads because I don't want to be spoiled, but I can't imagine why it'd be anything different to how Demon's Souls multiplayer. People, such as myself, will run around happily in Emebered/Human form because of the boost in max HP it gives you. Not only that, but when you're out estus or grass it will bring you to full HP if you really need it. Plus, I kind of enjoy being invaded, I get pretty excited when it happens. The forest is so much fun, especially when the invaders take it in turns attacking or it's only one on one.

Far too many weapons and armour are moved over from DS1 and 2. While its cool to have the old stuff all the weapons available from the old lady act and appear exactly the same as in DS2 (apart from weapon arts obviously).

the problem with shields is that because of the weapon art system,, nobody uses shields any more so everyone just 2H's their weapon.

One thing that bothers me in this game is the lack of common items in the world you can find. In DaS1 I could always search in my inventory in an emergency situation and find bombs, moss, healing items, knives, arrows etc. In Dark Souls 3 you are fucked. You have to buy all of them.
