See the thing I really loved in 2 was the different gadgets you had especially the magnet one, it also had the most variety out of the 3 games plus the difficulty spike near the end was also nice. I beat it not to long ago on pcsx2 because I only had 1 & 3 as a kid but not 2 for some reason. Ape Escape 1 came out at just the right time, when platformers were experimenting with triphop in their soundtracks due to soundchip limitations. The rest of the games soundtracks can't even touch the first one.

Also try Pumped and Primed and Million Monkeys.
They're a side story focused on the MC from the first game, with MM acting as a direct sequel to P&P. Way darker take on the story and they use the same base gameplay but in totally different ways. Absolutely worth playing through both but MM is Japanese only. Still, as long as you play P&P first it's not too hard to figure the plot out.
