Why does everyone get so angry when someone judges a game without playing it, no matter how much research is done?
It just doesn't make sense to me. I mean assuming the person judging the game has played a fair number (which is a fair assumption to make on an enthusiast forum), it really isn't that hard to judge the quality of a game based on what one understands of other similar games. For instance, if one has tried shooters it is not generally hard to understand the mechanics and feeling of another shooter through watching it. Further, the majority of what makes a good game a good game can be seen and understood intellectually and instinctively through watching a game get played, seeing how it works, how it handles input, how it looks, and how it sounds, not to mention reading about and understanding the underlying mechanics.
The actual experience of playing a game only lends to the "Fun" of experiencing something yourself instead of vicariously, but not much else that can't be understood without playing the game. It's sort of like listening to an audiobook versus reading the book yourself, there is a real difference in experience between the two, but it is not really impossible to judge the quality of a book from listening to it.
