>tfw star citizen can never touch freelancerfuck you microshit

>>334272987
They were making a freelancer 2 at one point but it got cancelled for some reason.
Who even has the rights to the IP? Microsoft still?
>>334275545
Yeah it's still a Microsoft IP
>>334275545
I didn't knew that man. You just ruined my day.

i remember /v/lancer
shit was so cash.

I never feel not sad for that.

my diiiick
I loved nebulas in Freelancer, you never knew what was there, a hidden wormhole to a scary and hostile system, a pirate base, some experimental guns in a wreck... Slowly flying through the low visibility areas felt suspenseful.
Freelancer alpha one dash one.
>>334278268
you are cleared for launch. Good luck out there!
how'd that pirate transmission go?
"cardamine cardamine people are always after cardamine" or something?

>dat opening fmv
>never played freelancer
>played the fuck out of eve
>got sick of its tried and true oversimplified mmo filth controls based upon cooldowns and refresh timers
>started playing elite in 2014
>still going at it
>$1500 put into star citizen
sp-space simulator renaissance still going on?
fuck this gay earth.
>>334277564
What happened to that shit man
>>334279063
>2003 was 13 years ago
>>334279063
Not enough people played /v/lancer so they stopped hosting servers. Also the author works for bethesda now I think
It's not even that amazing.
>>334277485
>press x for garage
>Unknown Jump Hole
>Find a planet called Primus
>It's the fucking planet of the apes
Best easter egg ever
>>334279585
Yeah, and the other planet in that sector is full of robots.
>>334279585
>"you new around here?"
>>334278114
>>334277949
Freespace didn't get everything right, but making sectors of space feel interesting and different was one of of them. Nebulas like this might not be 'realistic,' but having regions of danger / uncertainty / beauty like this made that game a blast.
Finding hidden shit in nebulas or getting your ass jumped were always fun experiences. I wish more games would do this.
>Freelancer thread always makes me reminisce about Disco
Man ... Disco was the best, but Disco was the fucking worst.
This is my comfy thread for the day.but why the star citizen hate?
What's the go-to single player mod for Freelancer nowadays?
>>334278832
>enter Tau 31 for the first time
>umphole leads to massive milk-white nebula
>high level Outacts and Bounty Hunters on radar
>this plays https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaxHAd7FWI8
>finally leave nebula
>clear blue sky everywhere around you
>this plays https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl5AzmknFdk over nothing but sound of your cruise engines
I never got over how doofy the cover looked
>back in the day when freelancer had mods that were popular
>one was freelancer: total war, a mod that reduced the game to 4 systems with liberty and rhineland at war, removed tradelanes, special server client that would kick you on death to remove everything you have and stick you in a shitty escape pod with some pity money depending on your economy points, added capital ships and in general had dangerous combat
>had a few hundred active players, which was a lot at the time
>your sides progress was actually influenced by how it's players were doing, killing enemy capital ships would give points and you could spend time trading and hoping pirates dont cd you to buy economy points to make equipment cheaper for you side
>capital ships are very powerful, but take forever to get into cruise speed, so without a player escort(atleast one dropping countermeasures), getting attacked and CD'd by enemy npcs would result in your millions of credits going down the drain because it would keep causing npcs to spawn and you can't crawl out fast enough
>I liked playing as a pirate, neither of the house factions
>pirates basically suck, but they have one secret weapon
>suicide packs
>load up the cheapest light fighter with suicide packs when I saw two of the leading liberty players(also the ones with loads of econ points and top on the war point score board) and one guy in a heavy fighter flying across the warzone systems
>spend 20 minutes searching from them as I suspected them to be heading to the hamburg jumphole
>find them right as npc torpedo bombers spawn
>suicide bomb the guy in the heavy fighter escorting them
>respawn with my escape pod
>watch system chat
>guy in the battleship dies
>guy in the cruiser dies
>the battleship guys ragequit and the heavyfighter escort guy spends a half hour yelling at me in chat
>check the war status
>Liberty had been leading Rhineland by 80 points
>As a result of my suicide bombing Rhineland was now ahead
Ah nostalgia
>>334279949
I agree, exactly. That's what made the post-game fun - the economy was static and boring, the equipment progression somewhat dull (except for hulls), but just finding new neat systems made it all worth it. I still remember the neutron star system with hellish radiation, or the double star system.
>>334280151
anyone ever played crossfire online?
>>334280151
I loved new ships (whi didn't have short power trip in his first bomber?), new systems and new bases
But I loathed pullasses they started doing later on (unbeatable SpaceFrance out of thin air? Really?), and their autistic approach to roleplaying.
Also I wish they were as skiled with engine upgrades like Crossfire dudes
>>334280151
man disco was pretty fun
i played on HA before i played on disco, anyone else from HA around? i can't even remember what HA stands for anymore it has been so long
>>334280687
>Tau systems
man Tau 37 was my jam
Fuck man i used to PVP in this game. Fuck people up with my Sabre dodging skills and tizzies
>>334272987
>fuck you microshit
Freelancer would have never existed without Microsoft. Roberts would have developed it forever and never actually released anything.
>>334281792
>Tau 31
spot on, because I meant 37 not 31
>go deeper
>Outcast system
>pretty cool
>see some base next to one planet
>come closer
>it's not a base
>it's wreck of Hispania that went missing during Settlement
I didn't see that comming
>>334282214
:')
>>334279585
We don't own this place but we have an understanding with the people that do.
Freelancer was a perfect blend between arcade and freeroam.
>tfw getting jacked out of trade lane the first time
Top hype.
>tfw you are ported into a Dyson Sphere
>StarLancer 2 never
>>334272987
>fuck you microshit
No sir, I think you mean 'Fuck you Chris Roberts" you know, the man who ran the project creatively and financially into the ground to the point where Microsoft had to strap together his bullshit into a remotely playable game that turned out to be decent.
Why is Roberts only good at scamming people?
>Star Citizen could've been Freelancer 2.0
>instead we're getting dull IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE with millions of kilometers of empty space on black background and flight simulator cancer like red/blackouts
I feel bad for backing that trash back during KS campaign.
>>334284351
It works.
