The original game had nothing to do with Final Fantasy, only when it was ported to the PSX it was published by Square, so they made a cross-over. The story mode (Quest Mode?) is actually the original story, and you can see the FF characters don't appear in there.

This game was good though, if you forget about Capcom being Capcom. It was basically just a faster SFIV, with a tag gimmick, and some other gameplay quirks. I'm still mad that they haven't updated it or that there will probably never be a sequel where they make the Tekken characters play more like their home series versions.

What? No, quest mode is the lead-up to the events of the main game.
Before the PS1 port it was only an arcade game with no story aside from the intro, the majority of the main game story is told in the manual, which still doesn't include the FF characters, everyone knows they were guest characters.
