Tabata has just wanted to do Square a service of making good shit because he liked the company. Sakaguchi might have had bad blood over the years and the canning soured him.
Since Tabata has made real strides to make equal opportunity for new talent to overcome hierarchy in the company, I can see why Sakaguchi is favoring it, but that was over the line. Geez, why give him alcohol on stream and not expect this. I feel for Tabata, he must feel bad for old greats to be this soured. Hopefully Sakaguchi was being humorously sarcastic.

They addressed it after the commercial break. Kitase is a great director and Sakaguchi had actually groomed him as his successor because he liked his understanding of the videogame medium and film so much. But he's probably a better creator than a manager and looking at his output, it's hard to disagree.
