In fact the only thing you are really losing is time progressing your own game, but you at least get a bunch of souls if you die. It is a very reasonable approach, and the only reason not to do it is if you want to impose that "challenge" onto yourself. I've played most of each souls game with a friend right next to me. It was honestly some of the most fun I've ever had, being able to share theories immediately, exploring together, experiment fighting stuff together, dying together, be scared together, laugh together. I don't think my experience was dampened in any way by having my friends with me. I played maybe one fourth of it it all alone and while fun, it was always more fun with a friend.
TL;DR It's not about shitting on invaders when we get them or being carried. It's about sharing a great world with my friends.
Also I've invaded in both previous games when there are multiple summons. If you're having a problem I suggest you git gud.

He has all the tools to ruin the host day if choose to.
The host can be pretty new to the area, and even if he's not, he picked his weapons, his equipment, his quick-use items accordingly to what he's currently facing in a PvE environment, meaning it's probably not as efficient against another player.

Eventually they will be at a disadvantage if they are trying to push through mobs to get at you. You attack when they're fighting the mobs and then you solo the host down when he's alone. If he gets a summon going you can kill him before the summon goes through and if you fail to kill him within that time you can just go back to the mobs again.

There are 3 high areas, one in the middle one at the left and one at the right (more or less).
Once you reach the top of these high areas there's a very tiny flame in an archway that you have to douse off.
After doing it with the 3 of them you unlock the big stone door.
I recommend you rush to the end and activate the bonfire right before the door. It made things easier for me.

Pretty sure in regards to Demon's Souls Miyazaki said that invaders are almost always supposed to win, being able to beat an invader should be something special. Obviously it's supposed to be dangerous, that's why you give up 50% of your HP if you don't want to run the risk.

It's like they decided to completely forego good design in this game, in DeS you had to balance the risk between being in body form with more HP, or soul form, safe from invasions you were very likely to lose. Whereas in this game there's no risk-reward to consider, or any thought to be given; summoning 3 phantoms to walk you through the entire game and steamroll invaders (the supposed "risk" of being kindled in the first place) is just a no-brainer, there's literally no downside.

I've always hoped they would make the invasion gimmick optional while still allowing coop. Even if you suck dick at the game and don't want forced PVP, you can just go offline and still summon NPC phantoms to easily beat the game. So, why not just let players coop at will without interruptions like forced pvp, weird network building, and obscure summoning rules? You aren't going to stop baddies from getting carried unless you remove trading and summoning altogether regardless.

This is why you invade as a Watchdog. You have so many options for dealing with annoying phantoms:
- Run them into the ghouls with the crosses on their backs near the black knight
- Run them into the crabs
- Run them into the NPCs near the bonfire

You can pace your swings with a tiny pause between each and get a bunch back. If you lock in your animation in by mashing you get none back but if you do each swing individually you are a lot more stamina efficient.

I found the catacombs to be quite good, even at SL40 but I can't for the life of me get summoned as a blue or a watchdog anywhere.

At around level 30, I've been not failing to invade anywhere. I'm on worldwide matchmaking though.
My favorite is the keep ruins near the abyss walkers boss, though the area where you joined the covenant is fairly easy as people just die there on their own.

firelink shrine has a chick that sells you a key to bell tower that also allows you to go visit pump a rump and pickle pee, cant find a video but where the fallen giant is, you can run, jump off the tree and onto the roof top and get some loot without paying the 20k for the key, i did it by accident trying to see if i COULD.

There hasn't been a player dicking as egregious as Yurt since Yurt, and there isn't one in this game.
That's not to say there aren't still treacherous NPCs, but it isn't GAME-RUINING to let their treachery play out.

this didn't work at all for me. the hitbox of his hand was way too wonky, and i couldnt get in range to hit his hand without taking 25% of my health as damage
I'm new to pvp. Is there anything I can do against roll spammers? Everyone I invade just spams roll and runs away until their phantoms come in and kill me. I can't backstab even if I run right behind them and attack. The lag prevents me from doing shit and if they use flask there is no way to capitalize on it because the recovery and health gain are way too good.
So is it just delayed for when blue sentinels come in? Because every time I get invaded it takes the sentinels about ten minutes to arrive, and by that time the invader is already dead or I am.
