Even the "repeats" from the former games were very unique individually.
Compare the Shortsword, Longsword, and Balder Side Sword, for example. Their R2s are all wholly unique.

R1-L1 animations are cool though
I don't have any evidence outside of personal experience, sure, but the difference between my 35 hours first playthrough of DaS and my 19 hour first playthrough of BB make it pretty apparent to me which is the longer game.
I don't use shields, I 2-hand greatsword for the most part. I was just pointing out that it was at least an option in the earlier games.
