None at all. CRT TVs/monitors will always be the best way to play games designed for standard def. Filters on PC emulators are alright but its no replacement for the real thing.

Filterfags are mostly nostalgiafags. And you know what? That's a perfectly acceptable reason to slightly alter how the game looks. It's not like they're using gamegenie on their first playthrough, it's just a little blurry. Who gives a fuck?
Clean pixel purists are demonstrably correct if literal accuracy of the game is given priority over replicating how it would have looked. Now, I see two groups in the filter camp. And that 'if' changes for people, you can't correct someone on what kind of visual experience they like. One is people just trying to recreate what they saw growing up and there's nothing wrong with that.
The other is people getting into these games for the first time and trying to make it more authentic for some kind of social capital, people you might call hipsters. Don't lump those two together when you're getting your panties in a bunch over how people emulate their games. Having personalized video options is one of the benefits of non-console gaming.
