Both. I bought it, racked up 90 hours in about 2 weeks and put it down. Haven't touched it since, but those 90 hours were pure bliss.
Harvest Moon for Sjws. Avoid it.
It's pretty fun but not perfect. If you've already played all the good HM/RF games then there's no reason not to give this a go

I'd make a spiritual successor to unholy war, keep powers assigned to separate buttons, make each hexagon a mgs1-style level layout and add fog of war to keep both sides from constantly attacking.

The only thing it has going for it is nostalgia, everything else is worse than SDV.
Gets boring after the first year is finished as nothing really changes the following year except one new villager appears. Pretty much every event plays out exactly the same and it very much breaks immersion.
For the first year though, it's very engrossing.

The game is crazily addictive, then after your first in game year you'll have a production line going and have everything you need and there's just...nothing else going for it. At least Rune Factory has a story mode and dungeons and shit, to make the crafting worthwhile.
Stardew perfectly balances between the fuck all nothing to do but farm aspects of harvest moon, and the craft shit to upgrade shit of rune factory, if you like either game you'll love stardew.
But then again I'll play anything with fishing and mining in it.

Dev is based and the game is well worth the price. But, like Harvest Moon, there's just nothing to do after a certain point.
I'm playing it right now and I really like Penny. She got me when she said something about the jellyfish having it good because the waves just wash them through the sea forever. My heart goes out to lonely people, i guess.

It doesn't fit though. It's a comfy farming game, not a slaughterfest. The dungeoneering aspects of the game aren't that important aside from getting to better minerals, so I'd imagine he thought killing the few slimes, bats, etc you see was enough.
I'm kinda sad because I was enjoying it so much but the instant I hit the end of the first year and start of Spring 2 it felt like there was no real reason for me to keep playing, since I'd already seen all the festivals, met all the NPCs, grown the majority of the plants, got most of the farm upgrades even if I hadn't fully utilized all my space yet. Basically nothing left for me but to grind giving everyone 2 gifts a week for a sparse handful of social link dialogue and grinding for more money to spend on more crops for more money.
Should have had more unique events and differences at least up through Year 3 whenever that ghost comes back or whatever.

I remember trying to get into Mineral Town and Harvest Moon 64, and progressing was pretty slow, mainly in the beginning. Was I juist shit or is that true?
Also the events in SV are pretty weak. Some have straight up no explanation and you can succeed in them unles you look at the wiki, and some just have absolutely no effect on the game
