Higher frame rates always give you more information, they smooth out motion, they act like AA, there are lots of benefits. The reason why 60 is the target is that it's generally an even multiple of the TV's refresh rate, so you don't get weird uneven information spread.
It's either 30 or 60, for me. Don't aim for 45 or something, that's weird. An even and steady framerate is more important than just having more raw frames.
