Campaign?
Red Alert 2

Either this or Warcraft 3. Probably Warcraft 3. They were both fucking brilliant.

Despite playing much more RA2 than WC3 I remember the WC3 campaign so much more.

Blizzard did good campaigns. WC3 it is.

Either Warcraft 3 or Dark Crusade

WC3 for the storytelling, Dark Crusade for gameplay/replayability.
Played through WC3 again not too long ago. Was kinda annoyed how the campaigns constantly limits your unit builds and upgrades.

I honestly liked that aspect of it. It meant that the gameplay had something of a learning curve, as the combination of your available strategies gradually became more complicated from mission to mission. They usually introduced new units in a really clever fashion too.

I need to play that again. The last 2-3 times I played RA it was the Allies. Tanya is so ridiculously overpowered.

>>
>>333814558
I beat it on Brutal before the game had a rebalance patch. Its surprisingly more manageable now that the game's been patched.

>that don't lose any defense structures side objective
>Having to sell all walls just to make a few more units
>Using harvesters as main offensive units. Star level harvesters have impressive armor regen, machine gun rate of fire, and turning capability.

If you want to cry, you should have played Nod's campaign before it was patched. The ayers rock mission, the mission where you steal the nuke trucks, the mission where you have to steal GDI and Scrin bases and they were having an all out battle outside the fog of war. and worst of all, Kane's Tower. GDI were horribly overpowered.

DoW: Soulstorm as Space Marines or Imperial Guard.
But my favorite mission is probably Guardian Angel from Generals, even if it was laughably easy.

Mah nigga, I love how the novella allows the game itself to be pretty compact on story but it's still there if you want the full experience. Also the story briefings being vague while you know they know more than they are letting on is a really good touch in that regard.

Warzone was (and to a degree still is) really far ahead of most other RTS games - especially for its a.i.

Really? Because I got the impression it was kinda uninspired from the little I've seen. What kind of mechanics does it have to manage and organize your forces? Does it have a good artillery system?

Well bear in mind i've only played two skirmishes against the shittiest a.i setting but saying its uninspired isn't too far off the mark.

It feels - at face value - that its very much all about the strategy side of the genre rather than merely teching/resource gathering that is the backbone of the genre ala command and conquer.

> Does it have a good artillery system?

Next to warzone no game has a good artillery system. Still scouting units are rather important for the artillery units AoTS has.

Generals/zero hour

The GLA campaign is ISIS simulator over decade before ISIS.

The USA campaigns is the closest we have got to a genuine simulator of the US army (there are terrorists in that village, destroy the village, mission accomplished)

And China campaign actually shows china in a pretty positive light and they still banned it the absolute madmen.

It's an alright campaign that becomes hilarious once you get meta.
